High Mountain Cabin Rentals

Worst vacation experience of my life while renting cabin "Sky High." While making the reservation, I was asked twice if our vehicles had 4 wheel drive and I said yes. When we arrived, the last mile of the road was complete ice which absolutely does not matter with 4 wheel drive.  One of our vehicles of guests got to the mountain top 1st and slid sideways into a parked car due to unknown ice. Those guests then witnessed 2 more ice-related accidents while waiting for us to arrive. When when my vehicle arrived, there were 5 vehicles parked on the side of the mountain due to accidents and ice. I called the rental company and ask what to do and they were very unhelpful. They offered no compensation or solutions.  We then looked for a hotel in the area and they were all booked. We were 5 hours from home. So, at 5 months pregnant, I had to walk an entire mile in the dark, up a steep mountain, navigating ice, hoping not to fall, and carrying luggage and groceries. We were also told that there was no guarantee that our vehicles would not be towed for leaving them parked on the side of the road but we had no way of making it through the ice or getting a hotel elsewhere. The next day (Saturday), we called and asked if we could check out later on Sunday until the ice melted off the road. The temperature on Sunday would not reach 32 degrees until at least 2 PM but the person we spoke to on the phone said we had to be out before 1 PM or we would be charged an additional fee. Because of this I, once again, had to hike a mile while 5 months pregnant with luggage, down an icy road road to go back to our vehicle and hope that we could drive down without sliding on ice. If I would have known about the ice (and I assume unsalted road?) I would not have rented the cabin because we were stranded the entire day on Saturday with no vehicles and I literally risked my health during different points of my stay. Other issues: The hot tub was cloudy and full of floating particles and had excessive amounts of chlorine in it. There was no chalk for playing pool. The master bedroom stayed extremely hot. We were only allowed 2 bags of trash for a 10 person home and were told that there would be a fee if we didn't take extra bags to a local dump.

My family waited for two years to take a big family vacation, and when we were finally able to get together we booked the Willow Wood cabin for two weeks. The house is stunning, with high ceilings and windows looking out on a gorgeous view of the mountains. The location is right next to Boone, so we could drive out every day to hiking trails, or to downtown Boone for shopping, or to one of several very good nearby restaurants. We spent our evenings playing board games or watching TV or hanging out in the hot tub on the upper deck. The house was spotlessly clean, there were plenty of towels (including a separate set for the hot tub) and the kitchen had all of the cookware we needed. Having four bedrooms (two on the main level and two in the lower level next to the lower deck) meant there was a bedroom for everyone. My parents (who have mobility issues) had no problem accessing all of the living areas on the mail level (master bedroom and bath, living room, dining room, upper deck, and kitchen). The High Mountain Cabin Rentals staff were extremely helpful with planning our vacation. They are responsive to requests, and were able to work around a last-minute scheduling conflict with my job. I couldn't have asked for a better experience, and my family will definitely be booking our next mountain vacation with them!

Stayed at "view paradise". Dirty cabin, had not been cleaned more than a light vacuuming in months. Dirty bath towels, moldy shower. Pool table was held up by a piece of wood with nails sticking out of it. Drove 16 hours round trip to stay in a place much dirtier than my home, and to an owner that said no, I know it was cleaned because I was there when it was being cleaned.

I am staying at the River Run cabin and it is amazing. Everything is clean and well maintained inside and out. I had put a comment on my reservation that it was my husband and I's 14th anniversary and we were excited to come. Upon arrival, there was a lovely card and two bags of chocolates as "Happy Anniversary" wishes. It was so thoughtful and above and beyond anything expected. There are also beautiful fresh flowers on the dining table. Again, above and beyond. Just lovely. The hot tub is clean and very relaxing....and HOT!! The atmosphere with the river running by is just what we needed. We have loved our stay and are already planning a repeat visit.
