They accept food donations here. I don’t know their hours, but they took mine at 5:30 on a Sunday, and the staff was friendly. It also looks really nice, at least on the outside.

Walden house is what you put into it, i was lucky that they had never turned me away. I had the chance to meet some of the greatest mentors a person can meet, these people who run this place are a godsend. There above and beyond, i left in 2014 and my life was saved by them, Walden house is a home away from home, everytime i walk into 890 hayes i feel thankful for what they gave me. I learned how to talk to people and function as a law abiding citizen, i was in and out of prison for 22 years . I had nothing before Walden house, i have my family back and i own everything i have. I look back to where i was 20 years ago and i'm thankful i had the opportunity to learn and grow from teacher and mentors who helped me be a better person.

Walden House has some very solid programs. I learned mindfulness and DBT both of which changed my life. The counselors aren't too bad. They like to yell at the clients when they get angry, but for the most part, they are very professional. Some of the management staff also yell at people. Especially the weekend coordinator. I can't remember his name, but he's an older black guy that sometimes acts as if he's still in the ghetto. He yells at people all the time but he's fair and he'll help you as much as he can. Walden House 890 has 115 beds so you can imagine the conflict that occurs on a daily basis. There is also a lot of stealing. While I was there at least 15 cell phones got stolen so watch your stuff carefully. The therapists are all young women and you have to be careful how you talk to them. I used to wonder, who needs the help? Dr. Jen, the woman who hires the intern therapists always cautions the clients to be careful what they tell the therapists. It is sad because a lot of guys could benefit from having a good therapist. If you go, don't get a therapist because you won't be able to talk about what you want to talk about. And if your therapist doesn't like you, she'll drop you! Even after you've spilled your guts out to her. The best advice I can give you is to stay away from the therapists if you want to learn anything. Take the DBT and mindfulness classes and you'll be on your way to learning how to live differently. Even if you relapse, you'll still act and behave differently after taking those two courses.
