The craftsmanship and care just isn't there. I had to go back 3 times and I still don't have them just right. The brand new pair of glasses I purchased was made with a small drill hole mark scratch. They insisted on replacing it instead of giving me a discount. The second repair I got back had one of the lenses loose and falling off, and the lenses were unmatching and reflecting different colors. And for the third revisit, the lenses finally matched in color but the lenses were cut imperfectly and put together at a different angle. The glasses were different each time I got them back and is not the initial pair that I got. I also want to note that the plastic tubing to keep the glasses in place were sticking out and not cut to the size. Craftsmanship and attention to detail doesn't exist. I paid $438 dollar for..... I got the same pair of glasses made elsewhere and they were perfect the first time. I do not recommend this place.

Great selection of glasses and usually at a fraction of the retail price for top designer brands. We really wanted to love this funky neighborhood shop. However, the glasses we ordered where delayed multiple times, and the staff were indifferent and dismissive about it when we stopped by the shop to inquire- with the exception of Sam who was very helpful and took care of our lenses in the end.

We got new lenses and new sunglasses. Staffs are so helpful, this is what you call a knowledgeable customer service, they know what they are doing. This is well worth of supporting your locals and get a fantastic service.

I bought some frames when in SF which were cheap and nice, but later realised they were really flimsy. I had had varifocal lenses made for them, and within a month the rivet dropped out. I was so impressed with how they sent me a whole new frame. Now six months on the arm has come off the new pair, and when I asked them to change them, I got no reply. I called the owner who was nice and said the manager was dealing with it, that the frame had been discontinued and that had I been in SF they would have replaced my lenses too, but they would sort something out. I have sent 5 mails to the manager and had only one reply. I have offered to send them by lenses so they can find another frame that fits them, I have found myself a cheapish frame in Europe and sent them a scanned quote asking them if they want to pay for the frame, and no reply. This is such a turnaround from the great service I had before, and now I see other negative comments here about their customer service! I'm beginning to wonder if this will ever be dealt with....

When I went they told me 10-14 days.
They have some non prescription sunglass lenses but that's it. Also they have their website opticalundergroundsf.com that tells you brands they have in store and online
The Eye Institute doctors do exams by appointment and have a dispensing optician on site

Everything Optical Underground is quality. I live in Florida now having moved from San Francisco and all its cold weather and I still use Optical Underground
No, we do not accept any insurance. You may want to check what your out-of-network reimbursement is. Often times outlet prices still beat even what you pay with insurance.
