Worst experience ever. Made a mistake on our license and they decided it was invalid and said we’d have to pay again to get a new one. We just want to be married. This is an overly bureaucratic organization that is more concerned with taking money than helping people fill out the forms to be legally married.

1106 Madison,they keep the applications outside on a table.The instructions are simple to follow & once you do what is asked you drop it in the drop box thats right beside the table.Make sure you give accurate info or it will be a waste of $
Yes it does matter you'd have to call the state he was born in to get it. The county of Alameda will not do it so go online and type in the county of vital statistics where he was born at. What State he was born in and then u can get papers mailed to u.
They are not open to the public. They have the forms outside the building however on my most recent visit they were out of birth certificate forms. The best thing to is go online. There is an additional fee for using online and you will have to get a notarized form and send it to them before they will mail your request.

I would call first. Last I checked a couple of weeks ago they weren't open but had the documents outside along with an envelope. You have to have it notarized yourself which varies between $15-$30. I would pay for the birth certificate online to avoid sending money in the mail. They won't take it out of your account until they have received the documents.
