Ethan was our tour guide today. Absolutely a phenomenal experience. He was extremely informative, professional, friendly, humorous, and kind. Great guy all around. He offered help, to took photos of everyone, and we just barely missed his singing (attend and you’ll see what I mean), HAHA! When you get there, you can buy tickets in the gift shop. They leave out for tour around every 30minutes. Short couple minute bus ride from the gift shop to the docking point. Short boat ride across the lake. Then a short bus ride up the mountain with beautiful views. Once you arrive at the visitors center, that’s your last chance for a bathroom break. The cave touch has around 100-150 steps in total. But it’s cool, not cold. Bring water. Ethan offers breaks and resting points. The cave tour is roughly 40 minutes. The walk back down from the top of the caves is outside, be ready for well over 100 stairs in the sun. But it’s so worth it! Short bus ride back to the docking location. Short bus ride back to the other side of the lake. Then the short bus ride back up to the gift shop. All staff at all points are great and full of life. No backpacks, strollers, or food. Only water is allowed inside the caves. Bring you a full bottle.

Amazing and must visit place if you are visiting redding/shasta lake. Tour time - 1:30-1:45 hours Boat and bus will take you 10-15 mjnutes each and then you have to climb 800 steps to the top of the cave. It is worth every step !!! The view of the lake from the top is also mesmerising.

yes there are of stairs.. starting from from visitor center.. you have step down 3-4 levels down.. then again 100 feet or so down to get to the boat.. because of low water level in the lake.. the boat ride only 5-10 min max.. another 5-10 in the bus.. then caves are in multiple levels.. with lot of stairs.. the tour gives enough rest between each level to catch your breath.. the views inside the cave was good.. the tour ends at the top of the cave.. then many steps down to the bus.. $35 seems to be ok.. considering boat and bus ride.. could spend good 3 hours there.. no restaurant there.. some snack available..

I didn't think much of this place until i got there. We docked our boat and took a shuttle to get to cavern. Once we stepped inside, it blew me away. It was amazing to see inside this cavern. I was afraid of stairs due to my knee injury but stairs were not too bad. Tour guy made us stop every few stairs to view. It was little chilly but it was great experience!!

No, as the caverns are protected by law and the system they have is checked at multiple points by staff to see how many there are, you would still need to buy the access.
Can be purchased online from the website in advance (recommended) or in person at the gift store
