I recently purchased a large, wood-burning stove online through the ACE website. The big box stores wouldn't ship to Alaska at all, but ACE did ... for free! The staff at Anchorage ACE Hardware called me when it arrived, and worked around my schedule to make the pickup convenient. The stove was HEAVY (350+ lbs) but the guys at the store did a great job of loading it onto my trailer. They were more than helpful and pleasant, almost as if enjoying the challenge... good people! Thank you Anchorage ACE Hardware!

So I regularly shop(used to) here for the little odds and ends around the house. It's very over-priced but it somehow felt better spending money here than at one of the big box stores. Recently, however, I brought my wife as we needed to kill a few minutes before dinner. As we entered the store and got a few feet in, the lady behind the register can be heard yelling over her current customer for my wife to leave her 'backpack' behind the register. Normally I don't take issue with this, but in this case the 'backpack' in question was actually my wife's very expensive Michael Kors purse. Also, very tiny. It barely holds her phone and wallet, let alone whatever loot this lady seemed to think we could somehow cram into it. Even after showing the lady the contents of the purse, the size, etc...she made a very snide "I don't care" comment, and the other employee (who also stopped helping his customer to handle this suddenly very serious backpack infraction) explained (also rudely) that we could just "go back home". I used to like this place, but the perpetual Help-wanted signs, the subtle racism(?), the constant new employees, and the enforcement of rules which are not posted, is clearly a sign of bad management and poorly trained/incompetent/underpaid employees. Avoid this place at all costs, give your money to another store who actually earns it (really any store other than this one). They don't deserve your hard earned cash in this economy, and it really will go twice as far at home depot or Lowes. I say this as a former, frequent customer. Honestly, im pretty disgusted with this store. You should be too.

This place defines what customer service should look like today. I have been able to complete plumbing projects with one trip and a consultation with one of their employees. Doing the same project out of any of the big box stores would take at least 3 trips buying the wrong parts and returning them half frustrated. The only complaint I have with them is that there are too many cool things around that I always walk out with more than what I went in to find. Ace Hardware Rocks!!
