This is my go-to site for ANY questions I have about my Rabbits. They cover medical issues from A - Z. Rabbits are extremely sensitive creatures, and 8 out of 10 times the advise of "See your Veterinarian immediately" is in fact correct. But, for specific health issues, they can be treated at home if you have the provisions and the stomach to get the job done. They don't give you fluff, despite how gruesome the facts may be. Some people prefer not to see the harsh reality that comes with being a responsible bunny owner. The "Rabbit Guy" is my hero, he's never failed me.

BEST PLACE FOR ADOPTION!!! They take very good care of their rabbits. They give them large exercise pens, allowing lots of space for them to play. They interview you before you adopt, to ensure the rabbits are in good hands. The rabbits are all nice and you will easily find the perfect rabbit(s) there. I would definitely recommend!!!

This place is fantastic! They have helpful volunteer staff and take really good care of the rabbits. We adopted our bunny from here and appreciate the affordable prices and boarding available when we are gone.

Questions & Answers

My 12+ year old bunny passed away, where can I donate top quality hay and items?

Kate O | Aug 22, 2021
House Rabbit Society | Aug 22, 2021

Kate, we're so sorry for your loss. House Rabbit Society can accept donated unopened food items (hay, pellets, etc.) and items that can be disinfected like bowls, hard plastic toys, or nail scissors. We can accept donated puppy exercise pens and plastic cat carriers, but unfortunately don't have storage space to be able to store other types of cages or enclosures. Thank you for thinking of us and helping rabbits in need.

What kind of bunnies do the sale?

mayte Castro | Aug 22, 2021
Rdausa M | Aug 22, 2021

HRS doesn't SELL bunnies and I would encourage you not to buy one from anyone either. Most people that sell bunnies do so without regard to the welfare of the bunnies. HRS does, however, adopt bunnies out to good families. I would suggest you give them a call and ask them a few questions. I know they would be more than happy to answer any questions you might have. They need lots of attention, they would rather not be alone, they are awake and sleep at odd hours, they need special care that, let's say a dog wouldn't need. They are prey animals so feeling safe is a big deal for them. The HRS website at rabbit.org is an excellent place for someone to begin learning all about bunnies. Visit the site and you can also view the bunnies that are ready for adoption. I do hope you find the perfect bun for you. I just had to put my 12 year old bunny to sleep yesterday. Miss her so! Good luck.

I have 3 rabbits 1 female and 2 male can I adopt 1 female?

House Rabbit Society | Aug 22, 2021

Hi JJ - You'll want to make sure that all your rabbits are spayed/neutered first, so they can live peacefully together. You can check out the rabbits we have up for adoption here, and be sure to check out the link about bonding rabbits: https://rabbit.org/rabbit-center/adopt/

Is the bunnies you have online the only bunnies you have or is some more bunnies ready for adopt

London Life | Aug 22, 2021
Anne Martin | Aug 22, 2021

Yes, the bunnies online at https://rabbit.org/rabbit-center/adopt/ are the rabbits who are currently available for adoption. We transfer in about 2-4 rabbits from shelters every week, so if you don't see the right rabbit for you today, keep checking back on the website!

I have ants. going into the rabbit hutch feeding area. What. Can I use? I tried diametrious earth

nancy copel | Aug 22, 2021
House Rabbit Society | Aug 22, 2021

For your rabbits' health and safety, it's important that they live inside the home, if they're not already. Sprinkling cinnamon in areas where you see ants is a safe and effective way to deter ants, safe for both people and rabbits, and you can clean up the cinnamon once the ants are gone.

Can I surrender a rabbit here?

House Rabbit Society | Aug 22, 2020

House Rabbit Society does not take in rabbits from the public. House Rabbit Society only takes in rabbits from the euthanasia lists at local animal shelters. If you adopted your rabbit from House Rabbit Society originally and can no longer keep him/her, please contact us at 510-970-7575. Here are our recommendations for finding a new home for a rabbit you can no longer keep: https://rabbit.org/rabbit-center/rehoming-your-rabbit/

Do you guys sell bunnies

Miguel Chacon | Aug 23, 2019
Anne Martin | Aug 23, 2019

Hi Miguel, We have rabbits for adoption! All the rabbits are spayed/neutered and microchipped, so no risk of accidental babies, and spaying female rabbits eliminates the 80% risk of uterine cancer by age 4-6. The rabbits are rescued from animal shelters where they were at risk of euthanasia - when you adopt a rabbit, you save a life! Every time a rabbit goes to a foster home or gets adopted, we bring in another rabbit from the shelters, so the rabbits we have available for adoption change every week. You can see our currently available rabbits at rabbitcenter.org, or just come in during our open hours Tues-Sun noon-5pm to meet them. Thanks! -Anne

I had read on one of the forums that Timothy hay *pellets* is bad for rabbits and using the actual hay is much better for the way their teeth wear down. Is there any truth to this please?

alice nakajima | Aug 23, 2018
Aaila | Aug 22, 2020

The pellets are just extra nutrition for your bunnies you can choose to not give them but consult with ur vet the I personally give my large bun about 1/4 a cup a day at most of pellets but you need unlimited hay for digestion and wearing down the teeth so pellets aren’t necessarily bad but they won’t wear down the teeth and hay is absolutely necessary
