Had a rodent issue with old and contaminated insulation. My insulation guy beat out all my local quotes and it has been the best decision we’ve made. Attic was cleaned and sanitized like new and the workers Matt, Ronnie, and Justin did a great job showing me the work and progress that was done. The house feels so much cleaner and comfortable. I would definitely recommend using them. Going to retrofit my wall insulation with them next. Thanks guys!

My Insulation Guy saved us this summer! At the beginning of summer, my house became an oven. While re-roofing my house I thought it would be a good idea to have the roofer install insulation. Big mistake! Too much insulation was installed incorrectly, covering the soffits vents and creating pockets of heat throughout the attic. I needed a professional to fix the problem ASAP. After calling a few companies, My Insulation Guy had the best solution and price. From the beginning, Jesse listened and understood what needed to be done. The insulation that My Insulation Guy put in helped prevent the heat from making the house hotter and stopped my AC from working too hard. But because my attic only has a crawl space, the batting at the edge of the attic covering the soffits vents couldn't be removed. It was impossible to reach them. In addition to insulation trapping heat in the attic, the color of the shingles was creating more heat. I knew that I was ultimately going to have to replace those shingles. A couple months later I decided to replace the shingles and call My Insulation Guy again to fix this nightmare once and for all. Jesse and his crew came out while the roofer had the roof off and they were able to fix the insulation covering the soffits vents. This job was complex to say the least. Jesse and his crew did a great job at fixing this mess. I'm beyond thankful! I would absolutely recommend My Insulation Guy to anyone!!

The stay at home order made me realize my home warmed up very quick during the day. I knew I needed insulation in my attic. I sent a message though Yelp and Jesse responded immediately. I got my quote and hired him for the job. He arrived on time, started working right away, no loud noises, cleaned up and was on the way quicker than I expected. He even completed a rebate through the gas company for me!! I highly recommend this company!!

Questions & Answers

Are you a licensed insulation contractor?

David Keum | Aug 22, 2021
My Insulation Guy Orange County | Aug 22, 2021

Yes I am licensed, bonded, insured for any property damage and my employees carry worker's compensation. It is good to verify whether a company is a licensed insulation contractor. You can do that going to the Contractor's State License Board (CSLB) website and search by company name or license number. My license number is 1049977.

Do I need attic cleaning?

David Keum | Aug 22, 2021
My Insulation Guy Orange County | Aug 22, 2021

If your attic contains very old insulation, trash leftover the years by various contractors, or it is unsanitary due to rodent infestation, then yes I recommend attic cleaning. We start by removing the old, contaminated insulation, then vacuuming the entire attic. Afterwards, we sanitize the attic to decontaminate it. Many customers notice their house no longer has such a disdainful odor once the attic is cleaned.

Does radiant barrier help?

David Keum | Aug 22, 2021
My Insulation Guy Orange County | Aug 22, 2021

Radiant barrier is installed on the ceiling and walls of the attic. The barrier consist of a highly reflective material that reflects 97% of radiant heat rather than absorbing it. It is primarily to reduce summer heat gain and reduce cooling costs. Imagine putting a huge umbrella over your house in the summer to cool down the attic and thus the living space of your home. That is what radiant barrier accomplishes.

What Is rodent exclusion or rodent proofing?

David Keum | Aug 22, 2021
My Insulation Guy Orange County | Aug 22, 2021

Rodent proofing and rodent exclusion mean the same task. Every home suffers from builders' defects, in which there are gaps or unsealed areas of the attic. This allows rodents, birds and other critters to enter your attic. Rodents can cause a lot of expensive damage. They cause the insulation to become unsanitary through deceased rodents decomposing and live ones urinating and leaving droppings. Rats can also chew electrical wires and ducts. Rodent proofing your attic will protect your attic.

Should I remove old insulation?

David Keum | Aug 22, 2021
My Insulation Guy Orange County | Aug 22, 2021

It is always recommended to remove insulation if the material has become damaged from smoke, water or rodent infestation. Just removing the insulation is one step. The attic floor must also be vacuumed by a high power vacuum system to ensure all particles of damaged insulation is removed.

Is attic insulation flammable?

David Keum | Aug 22, 2021
My Insulation Guy Orange County | Aug 22, 2021

Unfortunately most homes are built with fiberglass batts and yes that is highly flammable. For that reason I specialize in blown cellulose insulation, which is fire retardant. Having a few minutes more in the event of a fire in the attic is priceless when it comes to your family's safety.

How much money will I save by insulating my attic?

David Keum | Aug 22, 2021
My Insulation Guy Orange County | Aug 22, 2021

Because AC heating and cooling costs is typically every homeowner's largest monthly bill, reducing the usage of your AC system will save you money month after month. And because you are using your system less, it will last longer, saving you money there as well. Most importantly, attic insulation will make your home much more comfortable... and that is priceless.

How long does it take to remove attic insulation?

David Keum | Aug 22, 2021
My Insulation Guy Orange County | Aug 22, 2021

Every attic comes with its own surprise, as I've learned. Some attics have very little insulation to remove, while others have several kinds of different type of insulation, layer after layer. Then add in roofing debris and the process is slowed down even more. That is why hiring an experienced insulation contractor is important, someone who has dealt with every type of surprise. Most attics 2000 sqft or less can be cleaned out in 4 to 8 hours. Attics more than 2000 sqft will be spread out into two days of work.

How does attic insulation work?

David Keum | Aug 22, 2021
My Insulation Guy Orange County | Aug 22, 2021

Attic insulation is a thermally resistant barrier, which is where you get the "R" in R-value. It restrains the migration of thermic energy into and out of the residence. More simply put, it blocks heat from entering the home in the summer and holds heat in during the winter; keeping your house temperature comfortable and affordable.

How long will it take to insulate my house?

David Keum | Aug 22, 2021
My Insulation Guy Orange County | Aug 22, 2021

Most attic insulation projects take between 4 to 6 hours. Besides install time, that also includes prepping the house with tarps and plastic. The attic must also be prepped, such as making sure all ducts are sealed, no electrical issues and capping any lights that are non ic-rated. Finally, the house is cleaned up, making sure we left nothing behind but a more comfortable home.

Does attic insulation help in summer?

Dave K | Aug 22, 2021
My Insulation Guy Orange County | Aug 22, 2021

Insulation installed in your attic and walls will dramatically reduce the amount of heat that infiltrates your home. Your house will stay cooler longer into the day and the air conditioning will have to be on less often. When we insulate residences during hot summer days, our customers often notice a huge difference that night and when they wake up. The insulation helps moderate the temperature in the house. Gone are the extreme temperature swings of summer...and winter.
