I went to get my passport today for the first time. I’m the type to make sure I have much done as possible before going anywhere. The lady who helped me is the same so we appreciated each other’s efforts. She was quick, thorough and explained everything to me. She was also nice and friendly during the process which made it feel more welcoming than an obligation. Easy parking, easy directions, and everything was labeled for less confusion.

Santa Ana CA distribution center regularly delays PRIORITY EXPRESS mail for no reason other than incompetence. I wonder how many tens of millions of dollars a year USPS is forced to refund thanks to them. My little sister's birthday present was ordered a week and half before her birthday, coming priority express, and was still late thanks to them. ANY package that comes through the Santa Ana distribution center and is supposed to be fast almost automatically gets delayed. Have another priority express 2 day package that arrived there 3 DAYS AGO and hasn't moved since. This is the 8th time this year because everything I order seems to pretty much come from California and the vendors will only use USPS for some unknown reason. Do not ship anything that's time sensitive through them.

The last few times I have visited have been horrible experiences. They are very unhelpful, and are very lazy people. This last time I visited was the last straw. I brought in a box of books to send which I had put a lot of effort into taping and addressing correctly, the front window person wanted to open the box to make sure there were actually books in the box. I was insulted. I also had an envelope that I wanted him to weigh to see if I had enough postage, he said he was also going to charge me for the envelope because there was no 'proof' it had been paid for. I had received the envelope from the person who sent me the forms to fill out. Why would it not have been paid for if it was sent to me or in my possession? I was appalled. I asked for the items back and went to another location that was much more trusting and friendly. I will never go back to this location. I received much better service at my local USPS location. If you can avoid this place, please do.

At the main post office at Sunflower and Susan Street, I went into the lobby to use the self service machine to mail a large envelope. I weighed my envelope on the scale and the scale weighed 2.1 oz more than the envelope actually weighed. I went inside and Marlene was extremely helpful. but when I told the working guy about it, he didn't seem to be too concerned. So double check the scales at this Post Office and make sure they register at zero with nothing on the scales rable and re-weigh your packages to be sure you are not being overcharged!

Best kept secret is this post office. The office is open until 7pm, so, if you have a package to ship and can't make the 5pm deadline at your local post office, hopefully you are close enough to the USPS on Sunflower in Santa Ana. Alternatively, its worthwhile to check the mail dropoff/pickup times at locations near you as there are other central mail processing locations besides the one in Santa Ana.

If you do not have the original passport I believe you need to do in person somehow. There should be information required like SS card/birth certificate/ID/etc. Check travel.state.gov for most up to date info
