There's lots of walking/hiking trails. There's a beautiful waterfront view with the capital building across the water. Plenty of photogenic spots for sure. There's a spot on the beach where pets can go swimming! There's tons of trees for shade, grills to cook out on, a pavilion, shower room & bathrooms. We met up here with my family for a graduation celebration. Bring your hammocks and lawn games!

Lots of places for walks and light hiking. People in the office are helpful and friendly. The water gets dirty early in the season, but sometimes you can swim without too much of an issue. Look out for warnings about the water at the human and dog beaches and remember it takes a little time to post so don't assume it's clean water. I'd never let my dog drink from the lake. Parking is very good. Another bathroom would be nice. The boat dock gets crowded and you should watch out for boaters, jet skiers and fisherman in and out of the water, especially if you swim outside the ropes. I've been blocked in by a trailer someone parked behind me as I was backing out. Most drivers look out for bikes and pedestiatians. The park is very well maintained, lots of cranes, turkeys and other wild life. There's a cleaning table for fisherman.

I’ve visited here in a few different seasons and have to say that autumn is my favorite. With the changing colors of the leaves the woodland trails are beautiful and quite serene. This park is definitely less busy than others I’ve been to in the area, and offers great paths for walking, trail running, or even stroller pushing through the woods and Prairie. There are informative plaques about the history of the area scattered throughout. There’s also a beach, pier, limited restrooms, boat launch, and plenty of parking. Certainly a nice place to escape and let the stress melt away.

Smaller state park with a great beach and large picnic area. The trails are well kept and wide. Great for a day trip close to the city.

It absolutely does! Almost everywhere you go is safe and easy to fish from, for any ages. However, the lake rises several feet when it rains and when the snow melts. It's safe to go swimming anytime, unless posted
There is a wide variety of variety of fish. Mostly panfish from shore, with a boat you could catch pike, walleye, bass, panfish, etc.
They post daily where the water is safe to swim in at this website. https://www.publichealthmdc.com/environmental-health/beaches-lakes-pools/beach-conditions/
Contact the DNR for park stickers
