Food we ordered was sooooo good. My 13yo son and I are vegans and its incredibly rare to find restaurants with options for us where we live. Decided to make this stop on our road trip as a special treat. The noodles for the Mac n cheese were slightly more overcooked than we would have liked, but flavor still good. All the staff were very friendly too. Wish we lived closer because we would be here all the time.

This is the 3rd reiteration of Homegrown Smoker i’ve dined at. The first being in SW Portland, the second at St. john’s before the original owner sold it and now run by Mockingbird. The core of the menu is still pretty much the same. Smoked and bbq comfort food but the menu did look smaller this time round. The taste however did not disappoint. They also have some of the most massive portions in Portland, always bring a tupperware as you’ll be bringing half the food home. The only reason to visit St. john’s for me living in Belmont without a car but wouldn’t travel this far often.

The new bartender, Stephanie, is just the sweetest. I enjoyed talking with her & learning about the new changes. The BBQ chicken sandwich is delicious & if you did not tell me it was vegan I would have said it was the best real chicken I have ever eaten! I will definitely be going back.

The best Philly Cheese Steak, hands down. We also got two of their burritos. They are huge! You can definitely split between two meals. They did not have indoor service, but you can grab it and enjoy your lunch in Cathedral Park. Too bad we were just visiting, otherwise we would eat here frequently.

Yes they do. If I remember right, they only have a few beer options.
Hello John, The previous owner retired and shut the business down in December. As of beginning of March we have re opened with new ownership, which is why there was a gap in operations. Currently we have had enough staff to open Thursdays-Sundays, and it’s looking very promising for adding Wednesdays to our operational days starting May 11th. Hope that helps and hope to see you soon (:
Not that I know of but the staff would most likely be able to accommodate a request within reason of course
It's a family restaurant, I don't believe they serve alcohol. However, the Bye n bye serves alcohol and also 100% vegan food.
We have quite a few GF items. All of our fried items are GF. IF we run anon GF special in fryer we let everyone know, but really we just opt out of doing that almost always.
