From the parking lot, walk up to the right and check out the old painted stone structure. Amazing views!

I short clamber up from the parking lot to a tin roofed stone shelter with a beautiful view of the valley.

Beautiful place to catch the sunset! A short road trip from Phoenix. Quite a few people but there is enough space to spread out.

Questions & Answers

For hiking, what is the elevation gain? We are looking for a strenuous hike.

At the base of the road/trail is about 2700 ft. above sea level. The top of the road is about 3200 ft. above sea level. If I had to guess, going from memory, some of the nearby peaks are about another 500 or so feet. There are a bunch of trails in and around Old Tucson that would fall into that elevation gain of about 500-800 feet. If you're looking for elevation gain, the tallest peak in Tucson Mountain Park/Saguaro National Park is Wasson Peak, whose summit has an elevation of 4700 feet, and is moderate hike. It's a 7 mile hike along the main loop and has an elevation gain of 1800 feet. Hope this helps!
