Great hiking. I would have gotten lost with my friend who was there before so definitely check out trail before going and have navigation

I really like the trails from here into the Tortolita Mointains. You have to enter the grounds of the Dove Mountain Ritz Carlton resort to get to the trail parking, but just tell the security attendant where your headed. They have always been very nice and helpful giving us directions (take the third right) and offering a trail map. The trail head has more maps available and a nice restroom. Enjoy your hike!

This area is beautiful. Plenty of wildflowers in late March. The desert scenery is amazing. Not too crowded. Parking is easy in a dedicated lot. Restrooms and covered table at the trail head. The wild burro trail links with several other trails. Highly suggest picking up one of the maps or downloading the Marana parks app. For navigating. Great area to bring kids. All of the trails are very well marked.

Wild Burro Trail (7.5 miles) is one of the many trails that take you into the Tortolita Mountains. We entered right at the trailhead by the Ritz-Carlton, but you can enter from different trails. The trail can be a bit confusing because it mixes with the Lower and Upper Javelina Trail, so make sure you pay attention to the signs. The signs can be missed easily because they have a light brown color that camouflage with the scenery. The hike was beautiful and it's the perfect place for people that like plants. The first 2 miles are great for kids. After, it gets a bit challenging. Make sure you bring lots of water (it gets hot) and, if you go during the summer, make sure you go early in the morning. Also, we encountered a family of javelinas and a huge jackrabbit.

The trailhead is accessible and free to the public through the Ritz Carlton. Gate guard will direct you. Might be the nicest trailhead bathrooms and parking around. Great trails. Enjoy!
Yes, on a leash. The rules state: Keep dogs leashed. Promote wildlife preservation, enhance the wilderness experience for other users, and keep your pet safe. Clean up after your dog. Not only does dog excrement stink, but it also spreads disease to other dogs and pollutes groundwater. Some trailheads provide Mutt Mitts to clean up after pets.
