I’ve been more than satisfied with my experience with Sharp Healthplan. Sharp has been my primary care provider now for the past several years. I initially had been with Blue Cross during the time I had been initially hospitalized with an underlying condition. That experience was fine, but the process of contacting a live agent with fast answers became a process in itself. Since I am a local San Diegan, I decided to give Sharp Healthplan a chance to become my new insurance provider. They have exceeded my expectations with service when it has come to customer service via the telephone and in person visits. In honesty, as in life, there has been some bumps in the roads with service, but when noted, those issues were corrected in a timely manner or with explanation. I do appreciate the fact that my provider constantly asks for my feedback with surveys about my experiences with service. I do love my Sharp Follow My Health App that keeps me up to date with my medical records and other vital pieces of information that I need. The ability to check in for appointments in advance with my app or online has been a seamless process for me and has been a great tool as well. I think also during the past couple of years during Covid, I was thankful for Sharp providing free Covid Clinic Shots throughout the county. That was a big deal for me and my family. I would have never been this in touch with my health care provider, but as we get older, priorities change and just want to highlight the positives of my experience with Sharp.

Daytime hours reps rock! 5 STARS After hours reps may benefit from further education or better resources and supervision. 3stars for their effort, 1 star for attitude or knowledge When we call after 5pm PST we feel the answers weren't satisfactory and call again the next morning, receiving satisfactory guidance. Customer service with sharp health plan is amazing the people working there are amazing and I have no problem with. My problem with this insurance is over their MEDICAL DIRECTOR who cannot approve something that the doctor recommended for my son to have after surgery. It’s not like I’m getting things for free, I PAY for my insurance and it’s not cheap the medical director is not paying for the services. It’s not like approving something for my son that IS NEEDED is coming out of his pocket. I AM PAYING FOR IT monthly. I swear, Medical has less problems than sharp health plan.

Alton was the reason for this 5 star review, I’ve had SHARP healthcare as my provider for 6 years now and never a problem. Until one day an urgent care visit didn’t get billed to the correct department and a few weeks later collections called me for the bill to be paid in full. Called a few times and always got the run around “we’ll look into it” hang up. However, this last time Alton picked up and said “let me fix this situation” called multiple departments, connected all the dots that needed to be and contacted me throughout the process. Very helpful and very relieved he could put this behind me.

Hi there – thank you for your question. A good first step is to call your personal doctor, or primary care physician, and they will be able to help you get the care you need. You can check your Sharp Health Plan member ID card or Sharp Connect account to find the phone number to your doctor’s office. If you are being treated by an endocrinologist, that is the doctor who may order your diabetic supplies. If deemed medically necessary, your doctor will provide information about how blood glucose monitors and test strips are dispensed by network providers. Please check your current Evidence of Coverage (also known as Member Handbook) for detailed information about your coverage for diabetic supplies.
