I love the mom-and-pop feel of Stanford Home Center. The staff are friendly and helpful. It may lack the selection of the big-box stores but you can't get lost in the small simple layout here. You'll pay a little more, too, but it's well worth it to have a neighborhood hardware store close to home.

You would need to buy a 1x6 and then rip it into a 1x5
Yes they do rent log splitters and it's just a good guess on the price for a day of use should be around $70.00 for 8 hours. I don't work there either but i did really the log splitter a long time ago
