We came to this place accidentally when browsing the streets of Portland downtown. We were ones of the very first customers that morning but had to wait in line for a long time (outside, in the cold) while people in front of us took their time to scroll through the menu screens inside the restaurant to order. I think it’s a great idea to let customers order food from the screens by themselves, but it would be better to let the waiting customers sit down at tables (if available), they can step up to order when it’s their turn. In terms of food, we were quite disappointed. See captions on the photos for more details. Giving 3 stars thanks to the service — nice staff and quick delivery.

My partner and I stopped by to order karage, two sushi rolls, and two ramen bowls (plus two cocktails for me). Everything tasted fantastic and I don’t even have pictures of the ramen and my second drink because I was enjoying it all too much! Highly recommend. The lemonade ume the cute waitress with the glasses recommended to me was perfect too as I’m someone who likes to feel a little something without tasting too much of the alcohol 🤣 I’d definitely eat here again!

I had high hopes for AFURI. It’s extremely popular and highly recommend, so when I got the opportunity to go - I was ecstatic. Sadly, I left with the opposite reaction. Highs - the soft shell crab bun was great. Lows - the ramen broth itself lacked any flavor or seasoning. It was mundane and lacked any resemblance of classic ramen. After dinner, my date and I decided that tacos were the only thing that would save the night. No great. I wouldn’t go back

Heard quite a bit about this place. The ramen broth & noodles were quite nice. I’d try & diff protein option next time. The fish quality in the sushi was very nice & sushi rice was good, but some of the choices for inside of roll were meh. Def person preference, but some pickled things did & others didn’t work.

They indeed do! I enjoyed the vegan ramen dish. Not as flavourful as the pork based ramens, but still delicious and refreshing

They don't take reservations and don't answer their phone so we can't get advice from the staff - should we bother trying to go here with a party of 10 on a Monday night, or would it be a lost cause?

They take reservations for parties of 10 or more. Go to their website and make a reservation

Yes, but it's likely full too. It's always too packed in the entry way.

Are all of the dishes authentic Japanese ?.

I recently visited Afuri in Tokyo, which is a hole-in-the-wall Ramen shop. With really excellent Ramen. Afuri PDX is a nice sit-down restaurant with an extensive menu featuring a lot of local ingredients. Is that "authentic?" I would say yes. The preparation, attention to detail, and love are all there. Restaurants in Japan are inventive and highly prize local ingredients. So by that standard, Afuri adding microgreens to your Sushi is totally authentic. Afuri PDX uses a lot of Yuzu, which is decidedly not local, but harks back to the Yuzu Ramen for which they're famous in Tokyo.
