I recently gifted my niece and her 9 month old daughter a couple nights here. I live here permanently and so does her mom so it's wonderful to not have to drive. I have been coming here for years and love the funky charm of this place. Of course, Ruth is an absolute GEM! Now that I live here permanently I understand the ant situation and can manage and don't complain. Why one star, then? The owners are not demanding a clean and safe environment for guests and especially crawling, exploring, little people. Here's what my niece found after being told her room was "motel clean " : unwashed linens, no spares, ant poison on foil the baby was about to put in her mouth, borax from previous tenants in corners and along walls, floors obviously not swept or mopped, broken chair that thankfully did not harm the person it broke down on. If the owners are profiting off folks and saying you have clean and safe accommodations then they need to deliver. OR charge people $30 a night and tell the guests to bring their own bedding, cleaning supplies, kitchen equipment. Seems like over the last 4 or 5 years standards have declined. Over the many years I have rented rooms here it was always clean and safe and wonderful. I am super happy I get to live here and sad that I will no longer reccomend this place to family or friends. Other than a few tiny ants, this place is clean, warm, great shower, good bed, and a block from the beach... so cute. It's much better than a hotel.
