I was assisted at window 1 today . The gentleman who helped me out was very professional and polite. Thank you for making my visit such a nice experience..

Don't go at lunch time. The agents seem to all take their lunch break at the same time, so we were sat waiting for an hour for them to get back from lunch. When they did return from lunch, things moved at a better speed. Total waste of our time though! Security guards were bilingual and helpful.

Can someone please pick up the phone call during business hours? I’ve been waiting for hours and hours and there is no response. I really need to schedule an appointment to apply for an SSN.

I have made several attempts to change my name via SS-5, of which has been denied, simply stating that the proper documentation had not been received. How could this be? All documentation forwarded was original to include my birth certificate, DMV print out, current CA identification card, medical records number, my marriage certificate, my SS card with the name in question, and an Income Earning Statement issued to me by the Social Security Administration. After calling repeatedly, I finally made contact with a customer service agent that refused to connect me with a supervisor and went on to inform me that social security card replacements or name changes are not important enough to schedule an appointment, or require the attention of a supervisor and then he disconnected my call.

Yes, but you will probably wait a week .
can I just drop off an application for a replacement SSN card?
You can make an appointment by calling the 1-800 number, waiting on hold for an hour and scheduling an appointment, but they won't call at the scheduled time and you'll have to call and wait an hour again to find our why.
I would call them first.
No, appointment needed.
Yeah it pretty much s u c k s. Eastmont office was a breeze once upon a time. Google says certain offices are open. But they are NOT.
Not sure why they said a week or so. That person either has no clue how long it takes and so they made something up, or if they do know, they've likely learned to not give the real answer of "at least a month or so" lest it angers someone. Anyway, I'd give it another week or so. If it still hasn't come by then, you can try to reach out to them and check on the status of your request. You could also do that now, but I can understand not wanting to call them if it can be avoid. Aside from the nuisance of waiting on hold for hours, though, it couldn't hurt.
This office is closed to the public!
Sure, he just needs to figure out how to continue to be a minor child through college...
Call the 800 # They are operating under covid-19 restrictions so appts ONLY...
It's the Social Security Administration so they take a long time to do anything that isn't telling you that they're going to pay you less money or that you owe them money. My guess is a 2 to 4 week wait after you apply for you to get your award letter. I found this office to be fairly prompt for the most part though.
Yes you can go into the office and take a number they will call you by number and answer any questions you may have. Good Luck
Possibly. You're most likely receiving SSI. If you have a "work" history, then you may be eligible for SSDI (Social Security Disability Insurance), which would increase your earnings based upon years that you have worked. If not, the Maximum for California is around $900.
Whenever you need to depends on the calls lost damaged stolen
Not the same day. They mail one to you within 1 to three weeks. They can gine you a letter stating you applyrd for a replacement card.
Yes, you can make an appt, however, I have never waited more than 30 mins at the Downtown Berkeley office.
You can come in w/o an appointment but have all your documents together first or you'll leave unresolved.
They have 6 months to reply but can extend it to a full 365 days if needed. Not making anyone happy. Most decide or answer within 90 days.

You have to be 65 years old. They usually contact you. If you are younger than 65, there is a disability program they can put you under, but it usually takes a couple years to qualify
You will have to check with Social Security, this is a Google forum to answer questions about our experiences there.
