When I first walked into East Bay Nursery I felt completely overwhelmed with excitement!!! I wanted to walk every isle so not to miss anything... I was so pleased that everything I saw was healthy and seemed to be flourishing... This immediately told me that the staff clearly cared about their business... That was very comforting for me and I felt connected ☺️... The staff was friendly and was very attentive... The only thing bad I could say was that I got there at 4 and could not finish walking the entire Nursery because they were closing at 5... But it's ok, means I need to go back... Haha, found a new gem and very pleased... Oh, and prices were definitely reasonable... 👌

This is a great family run nursery nestled in the heart of Berkeley. The succulent selection is extensive, as well as the seasonal annuals. There is a good selection of 4 inch and 1 gallon perennials also.

While I was driving down San Pablo Avenue, I noticed East Bay Nursery on the corner. There was room in their parking lot, so, I decided to park and check them out. The next thing that I noticed was the wonderful murals that are painted on some of the outside walls. They also have a security guard. Out front, there are large watering troughs that could be used creatively for more than watering livestock. EBN is neat and in order. Everything looks in it's place. It is also much bigger than it looks from the street. When you enter, you enter a specific way (and exit a different way—good for Covid prevention). Everyone needs to wear a mask. They have an outside structure that is covered, and has rows and rows of vegetable and herb starts. They have an outside uncovered area with trees that are in season, and outdoor plants. Everything is labeled so you can easily identify what you are looking at. Inside the room where you make your purchases, besides having indoor plants, there are tools, ceramic pots, and humming bird feeders. They are closed Sunday, and Monday. Also, if it raining—call to make sure they are open.

There are nurseries that have just the most beautiful displays, and you just want to buy everything and take it home and make your house perfect. And then there are nurseries for gardeners. East Bay Nursery has very nice displays but the focus is on customers who love plants. They have knowledgeable staff, a varied and robust inventory... you will be treated as a gardener, not a shopper.

I would head down to East Bay nursery in pose that question to either Norm or Bob.
First, cut off any dead or dieing branches or branches that are crossing over one another. Soaking the ground is fine but make sure you let it dry out between waterings. If it stays to wet at its base it could develop a crown rot. You can add minerals to the soil if you think they are needed. Since the shrub is in a delicate state, I would recommend that whatever you food use, make sure it is half strength. It is well beyond its expected life so it may take awhile for it to come back. They have a big variety of plants and fruit trees! They are the BEST ON BERKELEY!!!!!!!!!!😘
Hello, We carry vermiculite but the bag doesn't say whether or not it is course.
Fruit trees will not produce we'll in pots without very careful care. They really should be planted in the ground. Once a week sounds good unless you are seeing leaf yellowing or obvious signs of water stress like wilting. But really the planter boxes should be temporary until the trees go in the ground.
They have some of the best selection in the area- The people who work there are very knowledgeable and friendly. If you are looking for something specific, you might want to call first.
