SFMTA and city planning really make SF a bad place to live. Leaders operate these orgs at the lowest possible quality and in a near criminal manner.

Customer service rude for no reason. Wouldn’t even tell me what to do when my cards kept getting rejected while trying to pay their tickets (it said incorrect zip code for all 3 of them, when I’ve used them a million times each - one was even charged by them). All in all, just a horrible program. They want to make it difficult it seems, so you rack up more late fees. They’re not here to help. They just want to get paid.

Other than an inconvenient location for anybody who's using a car it's actually a place that provides very good government service. The poor people behind the counter are forced to listen to all sorts of folks whining about how their parking ticket was issued when their brother was borrowing their car and similar things that have absolutely nothing to do with what this office does. Why they don't go nuts is beyond me. When I have had to use the place for things like temporary parking permits, the waits have never been very long and the people working there have been courteous and efficient.

The public transit system is broken for not being able to stop the fare evaders. I take buses running on Mission Street regularly and found that only 30% of riders get on the bus paying due fares during peak hours. Even during non-rush hours, only 50% of the users pay. What made it an interesting finding is that nearly 2/3 violators were women, including women with young child/children. A common tactics employed by these dishonest riders are getting on the bus using side and back doors to avoid driver’s watch. This means honest tax payers’ money is being wasted by these fare dodgers. I observed that the age group between early teens to early thirties are the most frequent ‘skippers’. It is truly deplorable to see these younger generation, our future, turning into cheaters. There should be the fare check agents on board or at bus stops to spot the violators and impose them heavy fines ranging 50 to 100 times of the fare, similar to the other countries. With an extra income collected, SFMTA should hire more enforcers. I have seen only two instances where there were spot checks over last three years. If SFMTA hires a group of three onboard fare inspectors and they issue 30 violation tickets a day, such a single team can collect fines of $700,000 per year, and $7M for 10 revolving teams (a total of 30 inspectors). The following are the faces of repeat fare cheaters which help put the public transportation gasping for air.

Questions & Answers

Next bus on my iphone says that it needs to be updated and has a button to press to update. When I press it, it blinks and then turns off. When I try to access it, it again gives me the message that it needs to be updated. What can I do?
