I am a parent of two kids in the San Rafael High school district. We’ve been struggling with the decision of whether not to keep the kids home from school during the fires. The Air quality hazardous particulate matter count has been close to 200 and yet the Department of Health and Human Services has insisted it is still safe for the children to go to school. Many of the San Rafael schools are set up in such a way that the children have to go outdoors between classes. After a week of hazardous air pollution it is likely that classrooms are as polluted as the outdoors. My children say there are no special filtration systems in place in their classrooms. We are not given the choice to keep our children home from school. Their grades or affected when they miss classes and there is been no offer for them to make up missed work after the smoke clears. The marine Health and Human Services department is not watching out for her kids And they are limiting our ability to protect them by making us choose between the lesser of two evils.

Go to the country health and human services. If they can't help, which I doubt, they'll find out and tell you what you have to do.
If you go into the lobby that is finally open (Yay!) You can get the paperwork needed to get foodstamps
Already open
You can come into the office Monday through Friday 8am to 4pm. Or call and make an appointment. You can also apply online through covered California https://www.dhcs.ca.gov/services/medi-cal/pages/applyformedi-cal.aspx
This office does not handle Medicare. That's social security administration which is actually next door to hhs in the AAA building.
Arriving early in the morning, you will probably walk out with the card the same day.
Show up at the office, wait in line at the windows and once you get to the window ask for an appointment.
