Holiday Inn Express Mira Mesa-San Diego

This is my second time staying at the Mira Mesa property for leisure travel. It is a modern hotel with a convenient location to restaurants, stores, major attractions and airport. It has very good breakfast selection, and everything is clean. I only noticed a few things that I recommend improving upon. One is the Lobby computer did not have a mouse, and appeared to not work. Second, Fitness Center has no small towels, water cooler, and seems like no one servicing it even though the room and equipment is also very nice. Also, I would prefer standard bathtub in the room, not just a shower, and that may not be available on property. Finally, front desk staff did not acknowledge my status with IHG, or offer me amenity points which is standard. I have stayed here twice.

Negative: Our room smelled like cigarette smoke, carpet was visibly filthy, and bathroom door did not close. Asked to move rooms and carpet in new room was also filthy. Pancake machine was broken at breakfast and they were out of plastic knives.

Awful. Got room 208, which was next to the elevator shaft. It was so loud that people on the other end of my phone could hear it. Couldn’t even think, let alone sleep, so went to front desk and asked to change rooms - guy was nice but wasn’t able to help. Told me to come back in the morning to ask for a refund. Went back in the morning after a night without sleep (even my noise cancellation headphones didn’t help) and then was told I’d have to contact the company through whom I’d booked the hotel. Two weeks later, I was informed that I’d get nothing - not a refund, not a partial refund, not an apology. Nada.

I checked in to stay 2-nights in a king room. The room was clean, comfy, quiet (other than the buzzing refrigerator nonstop), and breakfast was great. I presented the 2nd night to stay another 4 nights and was told by the front desk that they were SOLD OUT, and I would have to check out. I packed my bags and checked out that next morning. I started locating my next hotel to move into for the rest of the week, only to find that this one wasn't sold out, just the King room. I was so irritated because I would have gladly switched rooms to stay conveniently 5-minutes away from the location I was working at for the week. The same hotel had several listings on other websites, including their own. After seeing this just a few hours after I was told to check out because they were SOLD OUT made me look for other hotels due the inconvenience and lack of effort and customer service by the hotel front desk. They didn't even offer another option. I was in town to work with professional athletes...the last thing I needed was this headache after having such a wonderful stay the first few nights.
