Came here last Saturday for my sons birthday. I advise come here early!!!! To avoid long lines in purchasing tickets ! Otherwise you can go to Groupon and purchase them for a lot cheaper. Over all the museum was fun and a great learning experience for my son.

It has some interesting pictures and artifacts from earlier days on Balboa island. I definitely wouldn't drive here just for this, but it's worth a stop in if you have never seen it before. Not sure that I'd go back. I guess they work after donations mostly.

Small yet cute FREE museum with wonderfully charming staff! They have a nice gift shop but the museum section isn’t large. There was cool info about Balboa Island, Shirley Temple and more. You probably won’t spend more than 15 minutes in the museum. HOWEVER! I noticed an empty storefront down the street that said: Coming soon: The Balboa Island Historical Museum... so maybe they’re moving soon and will have more room! I never give FREE museums less than 4 stars, because anything they offer is gravy. Definitely check this out when strolling down the strip!

Does anyone have a picture of rhe hamburger stand on the corner of Palm and Balboa Blvd. in the 50's called The Clown Hut? My husband worked there in the summers of 1956, 57, 58, 59 and 60.

You'd have to check with the City of Newport Beach & local Newspapers on file at the local library. They usually have records going back that far & there may be a story or two that shows a picture of the stands or restaurants.
