The reviews seem accurate. You can wait on hold for an hour only to be hung up on or you can leave a message on someone’s voice mail and never get a call back. You can ask 3 people and get 4 different answers. Maybe if the code wasn’t so loosely written and the interpretations so arbitrary more would get done. Edit: I have been trying for over a week to get someone on the phone to answer my questions. I wait on hold about 10-20, either get a very nice or super rude woman on the phone who transfers me to somebody who is supposed to be “working” (probably off playing video games somewhere) and now I’ve left 4 messages for 4 different people, none of whom have bothered to call me back. Now, I’ll have to go down there to get a few simple questions answered which are NOT in the muni code or anywhere on their website!

You need to hire an architect for that one to do the plans. I suggest first of all contact the planning dept and then building dept. Best is if you go there directly and ask them at the counter...write all the information down. Ask specifically what you want to do...then hire an architect who can creat the design and construction documents for you which you will need to submit to these departments to get a building permit.

Is a building permit required for a detached car port that is about 14' by 16'?
