The Ellis Island of the west, now a perfect place for hiking, biking, or picnicking. Accessible by the Angel Island Ferry that runs from Tiburon in a quick 15-minute crossing. We cycled the perimeter road which is a relatively easy paved road, 6 miles round. Great views of the Bay all the way around (subject to the whims of Karl the Fog). There’s a good cafe at the harbor where you can watch the boats come in and out. Lots of wasps around at the moment (July) which were a bit annoying.

Incredible hike. Only about 1 hr, and you are at the top. You can see the entire SF city, east bay, and the bridges. Because everyone gets off the ferry and starts the hike at the same time, you need to hike fast to beat the crowd. There are picnic tables at the top.

This is the first time for our family to visit this place and it did not disappointed anyone. We drove to Tiburon and boarded the Ferry to Angel Island with tickets we purchased ahead to time from the their website. The plan was to hike around the perimeter but we decided to hike to the top instead. Some of the paths are narrow and you have to make way for other hikers going the opposite direction or for those that are faster than you. Some areas are very steep in my opinion but that didn't stop us. Overall, It was a great hike. Definitely will come back here again. You can bring your own mountain bike or rent one here. There's a designated bike path. There's only one Cafe in this place and they take advantage of it. A whole packaged Turket sandwich cost around $17+. We will plan to bring more food or snacks next time 😂.

I'd say plan to go on a hike to the summit for your first trip, but you can ask park rangers about the attractions when you are there. There is a service road which goes around the island, which you can hike, bike, or take a tramway to the various attractions, which mostly have been closed for decades and are in a state of ruin.
Picnicking. Available on a first-come, first-served basis, picnic tables and charcoal barbecues are available for small groups,
Yes I believe so. You can bring your own bike on the Ferry or rent a bike or electric bike on Angel Island.
From Wikopedia... In 1775, the Spanish naval vessel San Carlos made the first European entry to the San Francisco Bay under the command of Juan de Ayala. Ayala anchored off Angel Island, and gave it its modern name (Isla de Los Ángeles); the bay where he anchored is now known as Ayala Cove.
Yes, we saw them thoughout the day. I also learned that park rangers are present 24/7.
yee but it's quiet already
Nope! Just deer
There are no reservations accepted. It's first come, first served. The slips are for day use only. The moorimg balls are provided for overnight stay. There is a cost and the rangers will come by to collect the appropriate fee. All of this information is available at the Park website. Google it
Angel island is a very enjoyable taking a boat the only way to get there
Yes, there's a small cafe near to where the boat lands or take a picnic and there's lots of places to eat after walking.
No, Angel Island State Park doesn't allow firewood to be burned. Only charcoal in BBQ stands.
There is absolutely no way to get an RV to the island. Tent camping only, see the website.
It takes about 2 hours to get to the top of the island. This is if you do not hurry and enjoy panoramic views. At the very top, our team stayed about 30 minutes. They took photos and prayed for San Francisco. The time of descent is about 1 hour.
