Pulled into this place on a whim. Pretty cool place loaded with history. Make sure you take the free tour. Pretty cool when they open the water gate which turns the turbine and the entire mill fires up. Oh and it's free.

Hidden gem! So much great history. It is the last water-powered mill in the state and its turbines can be seen in action on guided tours. The guides are very knowledgeable. The museum has lots of interesting things from the years it was in operation. A water right that predates statehood produces the water flow that still runs the milling machines for the demonstrations today.

Took the family here on a Sunday totally spontaneously. Had a really nice tour of the oldest mill in Oregon. Took some nice pictures and learned a lot. Then we had a snack by the river at a shaded table, next to a man who was sketching the scene. It was a great day, totally recommend!

No camping at Thompson's Mill State Park. Only camping is at private RV parks in the area. Armitage state park with camping is at least 30 miles south on I5.
