surprisingly large park with varied terrain beyond the lake including a small eucalyptus grove, informal walking trails, and wide open spaces. A rare chance to find a patch of shade in San Diego. BUT: extremely limited hours of operation. Why, exactly do we have to leave 4 hours before sunset? That's the nicest time to be there.

Steps away from our new houseβChollas Lake truly has become an extension of our backyard! My partner and I come here regularly to run around the lake. The eucalyptus trees provide the perfect amount of shade, and we just love seeing how much our local neighborhood actively uses the park. On the 4th of July, we came to watch the Big Bay Boom from one of the hills, and it was absolute perfection! We could clearly see all 4 fireworks sites going off in synchronicity! And being able to walk back home without dealing with traffic made it even that much better. ππ Chollas Lake Park.

This is my local Lake where I come and run a few times a week. It is very kid friendly with a few piers where your tikes can fish for free (Adults are not allowed to fish). They even have a tackle and bait shop that will hook you up with a rod and everything else you need if you don't have your own, this is on the weekends before 11am I think. I'm not sure what kind of fish they have here. The birds you find here are Geese, Mallard ducks, Chinese ducks, common pigeons, one couple of white American pelicans, common seagulls and even double-crested cormorants! No bird feeding allowed as per signs around the lake but everyone bring their bags of tortillas and keep these guys and gulls (pun intended) well fed. The perimeter of the lake is 0.8 miles, but if you want a little extra terrain you can detour and find other trails that take you behind the lake towards baseball fields and even an RC course. Gates have hours posted that coincide with sun light, so these hours change all the time, basically it's only open when there is daylight. They have bathrooms by the parking lot and also have several gates along the perimeter of the trail in case the main parking lot is full, you can park on College Grove Drive.

Quiet most of the time. Very relaxing with walking trails around the lake. There are different types of exercise equipment make from wood. There are two piers that you can fish off if you desire.

you can go alone, I did it and I had no problems, I went alone, very early and there were other runners.
I'm with Renee, I just walked past the park (it's down the street from where I live). There are trees and leaves but they rarely change colors with our climate. It's still a beautiful place to go. π
Yes it is wear your mask
I'm from San Diego but I live in texas now. Been here for 20yrs. I love the lake, I go there every time I come home.
you do not need to make a reservation, you just arrive at the park and take the available table
There's no fee to enter but only kids from 6-15 can fish there
5:30 pm I read
One lap is 0.8 miles around the lake
There's a couple of docks, if u have a kayak or rowboat, but its not intended to swim in.
Yeah....Ill just see the rules and ask permission if its ok, cause lots of people hate drones
Call the city of San Diego then use chollas lake as a reference and they can transfer you the correct information
One hour latter
As chairman of the Chollas Lake Recreation council, the park and Recreation prohibits swimming because it is a emergency water supply, although we do have kayaks, check with Lauren Baker to make arrangements,
I wish i could give you a answer i would try and see if they have a proper website and or facebook
It is all dependant on the sunset. Right now gate closes at 730pm
