We really like this place. Best BBQ in Tega Kay. A fancier location than the Indian Land location, but still good quality food. They also have an awesome hotdog, and I like their greens! Baked beans, pulled pork and good hush puppies!

When you walk into 521 you'll immediately feel like you're at every bar you've ever visited. It's clean, but it's just a bar. With 10's of thousands of restaurants across America, it's not easy to distinguish oneself from the noise, but, that's sorta what you're going to get. The first thing I noticed here was everything was very laid back... not in a good way. I cannot think of many times I've had service this slow with this many people on staff (there was no shortage of waitstaff). It took at least ten minutes for the orders to be taken, twenty for the food to be prepared, and thirty to get a check. That's well over an hour for a simple lunch. And this is a BBQ place. Most of the food should be basically ready when the doors open. The food was.. fine. Not great, but still edible. The pulled chicken was a bit watery (not sure how that happened), the marinated chicken was served on hot, rock hard white bread buns, the brisket tasted good but was a bit rubbery. The sides might hold up to things you find in a grocery store freezer. The prices were way too high to justify the above. I've had food trucks charge me similar rates for far better food. And to be clear, I was pretty well starving when I was here, which should have boosted my opinion of the food. But I felt like I was back in school, or maybe camp with those weird serving plates that feel like they're made of glass but they're clearly plastic. "School cafeteria" is not the vibe that will bring me back to a restaurant. I know this place has been here for ages, so maybe it was an off day, but I'm certainly not interested in trying it again.

Super friendly waitress (sorry I don't remember your name) food was delicious and hot. You must get the hush puppies w the honey butter. The ribs were so good!

First time for me. My wife had been before a long while back. I had the pulled pork plate with fries and red slaw. My wife got baked beans. I was thinking red as in red cabbage but it was red as in "hot," which was kind of a nice surprise since I like hot, but if you don't, just be aware. The complimentary hush puppies were very good. Crispy outside, tender inside with good flavor. They gave us a large pile of pork (photo). 3 types of sauces, which is typical: tomato/ketchup-based, mustard-based and a spicier vinegar-based. All were good. Normally, I'm partial to the tomato-based but this time the flavor of the mustard-based won out as the favorite. The pork was excellent. I tasted my wife's baked beans which are made in-house. The subtle flavors that come through make it tasty and interesting. The atmosphere is casual and the do have a bar area and serve drinks. I definitely recommend.
