I stopped through here because I needed a place to unwind after going thru Chicago. My interest was piqued when I learned that this was the largest contiguous marsh next to the Everglades... and then the damn farmers got to it and turned the Kankakee River into a nasty looking drainage ditch because they can't see their hand in front of their face to understand these marshes are necessary and beneficial for the ecosystem. Anyway, it's nice to see the water levels nice and high to flood out a few crops. I bet this place was a gem at one point; it still retains some of its natural beauty but you gotta search between the corn rows. I applaud any efforts that are made to restore the curves and crannies of this river and return as much farmland in this basin back to native habitat.
