Waited for 2 1/2 hours before seeing a doctor, who talked to me for 5 minutes and said she was getting something to do a test, but then disappeared for over an hour. When she finally came back and did the tests, she disappeared for another hour and a half. I was there 5 hours total, left alone in a room, with nobody checking on me or letting me know what was happening or when my doctor might be back. I finally had to leave, bc I had already spent 4 1/2 hours alone and had no idea when my doctor would be back and couldn’t wait any longer. I told checkout that I had to leave, checkout verified with doctor over the phone that I could go and would get results emailed to me. Then I checked my post Visit notes which said I “eloped” which means leaving without notifying anyone, and that I “didn’t cooperate with further tests”. What further tests?? Nobody communicated what was happening to me and I wasn’t waiting for further tests. And I DID notify checkout that I was leaving. I understand that it’s an ER and doctors are busy but to not have anyone providing any updates for several hours at a time, and to receive negative notes that do not accurately reflect my experience leaves me with a bad feeling. I have a great PCP as well as a couple other great doctors in the Southern Maine Health Care network, but I will not be coming back to this ER.

Went here last night for some chest pain, I was in the waiting area for three hours but that’s just how an ER is they had to get some beds ready and available. When I go into my triage room my nurses Colin H and James C were absolutely fantastic, they are personable, they kept me up-to-date with everything with what’s going on, gave me medicine to feel better they made the experience great. My doctor Dr. Michael Burla was amazing as well he recommended me some medication to feel better and explained what medication does for my body and the whole process was great got to leave the emergency room at 4 AM and I am happy with the results. Will go back here again.

I would give 10 stars if I could. Triage, registrar, administration, techs and clinical staff.... What a team! You have gone above and beyond to make me feel comfortable and at ease. Don't let the negative reviews of a few sway your judgment. In my 20 years working in healthcare, this is the best ER care I've received. What an amazing team!! Thanks for taking such great care of me.

After reading the not so great reviews I was hesitant to have my procedure done at Southern Maine Medical but boy was I wrong. From beginning to end it was wonderful. The nurses and staff were so friendly and made my experience comfortable. I was blown away by the care I received at this hospital. Thank you.
