I very much enjoy hiking/running on this trail. It's quiet, challenging, and beautiful. Hope it stay s that way! One of Peoria's best kept secrets. Thanks for the experience!

The trail is medium level for walking. It's beautiful going through the woods. The trails are all dirt and some areas are very steep with roots exposed so you have to walk carefully but it's definitely worth the drive out there, especially in the fall!

Beautiful fall colors. A great place to hike. A variety of terrains. I would highly recommend.

My favorite trail in the area. This almost 7 mile, out and back trail, begins at Camp Wokanda and ends at Detweiler Park. Jumping on at Robinson Park is also an option and cuts off about 2+ miles from the trail's length. This trail has rolling hills, with a few of them being fairly steep. We have used this as a training trail for our hikes in the Appalachian Trail. A fun option for us has been to start at Detweiler, hike to Camp Wokanda, camp there for the night, and then hike back to Detweiler in the morning. Reservations are required through the Peoria Park District for camping at Camp Wokanda, buy they have cabins as well as places to pitch a tent. Water is available seasonally at Detweiler, Robinson, and Camp Wokanda. Drinking from the creeks in the area is not advised.

Questions & Answers

Can I bring my dog on these trails?

Yes. There are parts that include some steep makeshift stairs made out of thick wood boards with some metal rods sticking out that may be difficult for them but with caution you could make it through.

Is this trail suitible for biking? Regular biking with fairly smooth trails, either leaf covered or gravel covered, not heavy duty mountain biking in dirt and with big hills.

No bikes are allowed on the trail. But it would not be suitable for biking. Many steep hills, trails with switchbacks, hills with stairs built into them, and lots of exposed tree roots.
