Great people work there.

Neat, organized and streamlined. Pricing is variable I find and sometimes changes based on the attendant.

Not sure why the City decided to downsize the transfer station footprint when the city is only going to get bigger. Very congested sometimes during peak hours.

What an awesome upgrade! It's easier to drive through without people backing into you (still be careful, some people think they are the only ones there!). You can COMPOST YOUR FOOD!!, recycle your batteries, pay to drop off your appliances (modest fees in my opinion), get rid of windows, wood, household trash, recycle and get rid of yard waste. Thanks to the City of South Portland for the excellent customer service and to the taxpayers for the great facility!

Recycling is free, trash is $5 a bag. https://www.southportland.org/departments/public-works/transfer-facility/transfer-facility-rules-accepted-items/
Please check our website here for a list of accepted items and their fees: https://www.southportland.org/departments/public-works/transfer-facility/transfer-facility-rules-accepted-items/ Please note that the South Portland Transfer Facility is for South Portland residents only.
Hi Gary. Thank you for thinking of the Swap Shop. Unfortunately, it's closed for the season and won't reopen until April. Have you heard of South Portland's Buy Nothing group on Facebook? It's like an online version of the Swap Shop, and only your friends and neighbors in South Portland are allowed to be in the group. If you're not on Facebook yourself perhaps you know somebody who is and could post it for you...?
Yes they are open.
Yes, you must be a South Portland resident with a valid residential permit sticker to access the Transfer Station. No commercial waste is accepted.
There are two ways I know of one is let it dry out all the way like it's been suggested and put it in your regular trash. The second way is to wait for a hazardous waste disposal day. Sometimes your transfer stations will let you pay to dispose of it. But that you would have to call and ask. I hope that helps.
Arius Caron, good to know, but I was simply asking a question based on what I read for reviews as we have not ever been, but you did not need too be rude about your answer. Do not reply back!
Bagged trash should free since residents already pay for the service in their taxes.
They do. It must be emptied of gas an motor oil.
No it is not.
The charges are posted on the city website as well as at the transfer station itself.
You can leave stereo equipment at the swap shop but no monitors, printers or TVs.
