This is a great organization, the way they give back to their community is inspiring and should be an example for all of us.. From dances for the vulnerable & challenged High School Youth, to Soccer tournament’s for the youth.. The amount given away every year in scholarships for High School students is in itself enough to put this organization on top of your list.. They help by giving to a speech & hearing camp in the blue mountains called Meadowwood... Where youth go for 2 weeks for one on one counseling, it’s made a huge impact for these youth... In recent years they have added a new much needed service for youth & families, which is one on one counseling for Autism, not just for the youth, they bring in the family to teach them skills to help their family by easing stress and giving them coping skills.. This camp is maintained and financed by Oregon Elks Lodges.. The lodge has bingo every Thursday open to the public, the money raised by the lodge helps finance all of their charities, including the Elk’s Casey Eye Clinic up by Veterans Hospital... Which is a great Segway to tell you about all of the work they do for the Veterans; in fact their Motto is “So long as there are Veterans, the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks will never forget.” Major projects include our continual help going up to the Veterans Hospital bringing comfort supplies, to all nurses stations for the homeless vets that have to be hospitalized... They often come in with nothing, the Elks provide toothbrushes, combs, razors, essential personal care items and things to do while there; such as puzzle books, cards etc... They fill backpacks with new undergarments, hygiene kits, sleeping bags, hand warmers, hats, gloves and even little first aid kits; to be handed out to our homeless veterans to make life a little easier on them.. Their veteran work stretches much further... They help our less fortunate during the Holidays easing the stress on families and lightening the burden on the government.. It isn’t all work, we have fun doing it, by having live music, dance lessons, wine & art nights, Charity Galas, Breakfasts with Santa, and Easter Egg Hunts, just to name a few.. If you are looking for a place to volunteer and have fun, this is the place to be.. If you choose to join, tell them Malia sent you; I am the First Woman Exalted Ruler and am very proud of the work we do and My “Elk Family.”

BPOE ~ Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks.. AKA: Best People on Earth.. This is a fraternal charity organization.. This is the place to go, if you like to give back.. This organization focuses on our Veterans and our Youth... Our pledge is: “So long as there are veterans, the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, will never forget them!” There are several opportunities if you want to join in giving back to your community.. Our major state project is “The Casey Eye Clinic.” This focuses on dedication to help children in need. The Elks have funded this clinic, so that the doctors and scientists can concentrate on cures to overcome eyesight issues, at a young age. Scholarships and grants are given in order to help youth get the education they need, and projects to give back and help those who have served this great nation. I am proud to be a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks!
