Maine Audubon's Gilsland Farm is such a magical place! Several miles of trails meander through meadows, pond, and forest ecosystems, allowing great looks at birds and just a nice place to relax. They also have regularly spaced benches for those wanting to sit and take in the views and birds! They offer events like guided bird walks--free for members--and have a beautiful peony garden that you don't want to miss in June!

I very much enjoyed the diversity of paths, vegetation, and birds. There are many places to pause, sit and immerse in the splendor of nature. I was delighted to see an en plein air art class with a very encouraging instructor. It is a happy happening place.

Late Summer 2021: Such a Beautiful and peaceful place!!! The birds singing and the butterflies flying around, so beautiful!!! I'm so lucky to live near such a stunningly beautiful place!!! My adult children used to go to the Maine Audubon summer camps and watching the children play in the fields, was like a blast from the past!!!

We enjoyed our afternoon exploring all the cute trails. We some some nice butterflies and birds. The shop was also very nice and purchased few nice things. Overall it’s a nice place to go for a walk and birdwatching.

Hi Betty, Our Staff Naturalist just updated his article "Where Are The Birds?" for winter 2019. Take a look here: https://www.maineaudubon.org/news/where-are-the-birds-winter-2018-19/
Thanks for info. I saw and took a picture in Westbrook where the bird posed proudly with it's prey. My best guess is a juvenile golden eagle or juvenile perigrine falcon.
The July puffin cruises out of New Harbor are your best bet!
Post a photo here perhaps?
Little Blue Herons do occur in that part of Maine. Were they blue-gray or white? Juveniles are white and easily confused with Egrets.
That almost sounds like how my step-father has described mating calls. I'm not sure if that's what the bird was actually doing, but it's definitely makes sense as a possibility.
My pumpkins were hollowed out a few weeks ago. They all must have enjoyed their feast. I live in Cape Elizabeth.
You can walk around the grounds, but I am not sure the building with the gift shop and class rooms would be open.
