I moved here from out of state and needed to get a PA DL. The people that work here are very friendly and efficient! Great communications skills too. They also let you choose the picture you like best. I've never had that anywhere else. The place was packed when I arrived and I was done in 45 minutes. Wow! Also, go to the PA DL website and do the PDF form ahead of time. That saves you time. Also, make sure to check that you have all the necessary documents before you arrive. I'm looking forward to coming back when I need too!

The DMV has changed a lot in the last few years. There is a friendly person who greets you at the entrance now, asks why you're there, makes sure you have everything needed, then explain which button to press on the kiosk. For those taking the drivers test, that person also does a quick eye exam for you. Then after pressing your needed item on kiosk, it was not a long wait to be helped by the next person. It's all digital now, so numbers being served and next numbers waiting are all displayed for your viewing pleasure. It was quiet and eerily running quite smoothly. I never thought I would give 5 stars to a DMV, but here I am. Even the rest room was clean. Main complaint- the parking lot is a terrible mess of holes and bumps. It is one of the worst parking lots I have seen in a long time. It is bad.

Everyone there was very nice and energetic. That have a great sense of humor all laughs and smile. It wasn't crowded at all, I was in and out maybe in 10 minutes. This is my new go to DMV.

You have to make an appointment. You can do this online without talking to anyone. They book up fast so usually you will be looking at 1-2 months of a wait when you go to book your appointment. I think Saturday is an option though I would imagine that day gets booked up the fastest.
I have never had an issue at New Kensington. The employees on the photo side are very friendly, polite, welcoming etc. The others aren't as warm but they aren't rude or mean or anything regarding my experiences. I haven't seen it crowded nor have I had to wait particularly long. I've been there 4 or 5 times now for different things and each time was fine.
No you do not. You only have to make an appt for the driving test.
