Our docent Janice was so knowledgeable and had so much passion for the Chamberlain family. It was truly an incredible tour !

My wife’s grandfather donated most of the items in the museum. Before you entered there use to be my wife’s grandfather’s name Murray Litchfield on a plaque thanking him. They also told him if he or his family ever want to tour the museum we would get in for free. This is the least they can do. Since most of the items donated came from him. Her family was friends with Chamberlain. Since her grandfather’s death they took down the plaque with his name and have told the family they would have to pay to visit. What a lack of respect to her grandfather and his legacy. My wife’s grandfather could have sold everything for thousands of dollars. Instead he donated it and they can’t even leave a plaque there in his memory. So you leave me a number that has been disconnected.

It was a great tour! Today, Troy took us on a tour of the Chamberlain House and asked us if there was any specific time period we were interested in. I requested his post-war period and my wife asked for insight into their domestic life. We learned Joshua Chamberlain was very futuristic and thought 2-3, even 4 generations ahead. He championed military readiness, co-ed college enrollment, and redemptive/reconciliation minded government. I highly recommend taking advantage of this great resource and the knowledgeable docents. Go out of your way to visit! (During COVID, schedule an appointment)

A wonderful Museum to learn about the life of General Joshua Chamberlain. Wonderful guided tours, where you can ask questions about anything involving his life. The home is a great overview of his life as a professor, an officer in the Army, and as governor of the state of Maine. I highly recommend going to this Museum if you wish to learn more about him.

The tour is a do-not-miss. I'm a fairly avid Civil War buff, but learned a lot about Chamberlain's life, especially after the war. Great tour!
