Here's the deal with the Portland Observatory - it's NOT a lighthouse so don't think you're going up in a lighthouse i mean come on it's way too far from the shore for that. What is it? An awesome tower from like 200 years ago that was used to watch for ships to inform the locals when they should head down to the piers to help unload or whatever. Sounds awesome, right? Ok maybe I didn't do a great job of selling it but trust me it's fantastic. The tour guide who stood at the top of the tower was INCREDIBLE the 30 minute time slot we had just EVAPORATED. Learned a ton. The views were spectacular. Exhibits inside were quick and educational. Shockingly good. Absolutely worth the $8 (with AAA) price of admission, $10 if you're not AAA (no idea who would do that...).

A wonderful tour of the observatory (not lighthouse). The history is very interesting and our tour guide, Barb, was knowledgeable, personable, and a delight. She obviously loves history and the area.

This was a great little tour while in Portland. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and her stories captivating. And the view from the top was pretty spectacular. You can see all over the city of Portland, the inner harbor, out to Porand Head Light, and in the other direction, the White Mountains in New Hampshire.

I could've done without the tour, which stops at each floor (there are 7 floors). Some great tidbits that could've been condensed into a much shorter presentation. It was especially a bummer because by the time we made it to the observation deck, we only had about 5 minutes before the next tour group was heading up. Would have loved to have spent more time up there. Incredible views.

It is currently closed for the season. http://www.portlandlandmarks.org/observatory
Admission: Adults $10, Seniors/Students/AAA $8, Children ages 6-16 $5. Portland residents: Adults $5, Children ages 6-16 $3; Family rate: $30, under 6 and members FREE You can see the exhibits on your own, but can have a guided tour if you wish. The upper floors are accessed by a narrow winding stairway, but, if you don't have mobility issues, the view is worth it.

Depends on the 🐕. I'm sure service animals are allowed. Maybe dogs you can carry. If they do allow dogs, I hope they like stairs.
Yes
Cold spring I suppose.....
