After losing our beloved cat Lotus of 10 years, we decided it was time to get a kitten. After a decade of true rescue and rehabilitation we decided on a kitten we could raise without traumatic experiences we needed to work on. Although, it can be done! I have had experience with several animal facilities, animal caretakers and animal organizations throughout the last decade. I called ten shelters in Maine before finally reaching Waterville Humane Society and luckily finding a very small, male, neutered kitten. It was important he was neutered before he came home (even though he would be indoor only) because even the shelters are having difficulty getting appointments for animals to be spayed/neutered by Veterinarians in Maine. I spoke to a friendly employee at noon stating they had 8 kittens, but we had to travel about two hours to the shelter and kittens go fast. They could not hold one, but allowed me to do my application online and told me as long at we got there at 4pm (their closing time) they would process us. We got there at 3pm, the staff was friendly, greeted us, took us to a clean room of non caged and socialized cats where only about half the kittens were still available. We found exactly what we were looking for and then some. We had no idea it was a polydactyl, fixed male, likely Bengal mix. We already have one Bengal mix and love the breed. The staff did our paperwork in a timely manner and took the time to explain every detail. They were all friendly. The cost covered neutering, all shots except rabies (due to age), flea treatments (not a one on him), deworming, ear cleaning, microchip, and a voucher for the first well check at a Veterinarian. I especially liked their contract including declawing is inhumane and it is not supported by WHS, by signing you agree not to have it done. It also included a portion on rehoming and contacting them if you decide to do so. Our healthy kitten immediately settled into our home and was just days over 8 weeks old. The entire experience was five star.

Ripley loves his new home. I'm so glad that he rescued us.

Yes. Cats & dogs over 1 year fees are waived. Puppies & kittens have half their fee waived.
Not sure....but glad you are adopting.
Yes
It varies depending on current promotions.
Of course you can from walking the dogs to cleaning cages our shelters thrive because of their volunteer's.
Yes there is a program for voucher assistance program. However the voucher saves 50$ for females and 25$ for males. But the cost is upwards to 200$ so not much of a savings. They do have a clinical program during the year where you can take and have your cat spayed for like 50$ total. So Simone Engelhardt tell your daughter to check on that I think this would be your daughters best option especially to save lots of money. Good luck KEV K...
I'm a consumer. U need 2 call them and ask.
They put one clean blanket in with the 11yr old cat we adopted but we did not get one for the kitten we adopted.
You can view all available animals on the website under the Adopt tab. You can also go to the shelter from Noon-4pm everyday except Sunday & Wednesday for walk-in meets and adoptions.
They do but right now they shut down because they covid about 3 weeks ago
Yes you can. Unfortunately we had a cat that got hurt and we could not afford to take her to the vet so we had to surrender her. It was sad we would no longer have her but we were happy she would get all the help she needed
Anyone I think
I'm not sure if they do or not. Here's a number to call and their hours 12-4 PM- 8732430
They are open 12 to 4 pm
I am not sure
I am so sorry for your loss Linda. I was just on the Humane Society's website and didn't see him but you can always call in to be sure. Good luck finding another furry friend to join your family.
The younger they r the more expensive it gets
The humane society isn't animal control..
What are you asking? To give up your pet?
I am pretty sure that they do. You could call them First.
Yes I am he's a good dog I just can't afford him and I don't want him to suffer cause of it
I'm not sure about dogs but they do them for cats. I'd call they are really nice people there.
They have plenty of animals in need of homes, they don't have "exotic" animals. For a better idea of what they have just go and play with their cats because they need love anyways!
You're welcome! They do a free adoption weekend every so often, but they will advertise before doing so! 😊
I would not advertise pets for sale on Craig’s list
I am not sure
The Waterville Area Humane Society is filled with wonderful furry friends needing a new home. Definitely check them out
They have cat boxes to bring the cats home in for $5 extra.
If it is over a year old.
If you call the shelters and let them know with a description, they can tell you whether she is there or not. Much quicker. Plaquemine Parish should be able to tell you where they sent her.
Sometimes they are available, but not often
I was there a few weeks ago and they had a few litter that were not yet old enough to adopt and it is the season very soon for kittens so you may want to call. Chances of getting a direct answer on here are pretty slim
Call the humane society they have a voucher program based on income
You will have to call them directly. They will not answer questions thru this app. Also I was there and they have a few cats that are black and white.
