I've used CBR since 1995 and have literally bought hundreds of computers from him (I used to be an IT Director for a company). Dave's a far better option than going to any big box store or ordering online.

I needed help on a weekend without a giving the owner any notice. Dave was courteous and quickly identified that the laptop's hard drive was toast. I appreciated his expertise and honest assessment of my options. I highly recommend this local business.

CBR is simply the best around, he has the ability for taking on PC up to mid size business needs from what we have seen. This review is based on him servicing over 5 of our computer for nearly 2 years now and can say he is a class act on a personal level and as a tech you will not find anyone close to his dedication and know how in the area Portland.

The only place I'll ever buy a computer or a laptop. Excellent sales, service, price and quality! We have been doing business with CBR since 1999. David really knows all the latest and best

Do you have a brand new 8700k that i could purchase by chance?

I'm sorry, no. Excellent processor. Locally, you can probably lay hands on one today at Fry's, but I would call ahead and have someone actually lay hands on the 8700K and hold it for you. Thanks for asking!

DO YOU HAVE A LAPTOP FOR UNDER A HUNDRED BUCKS FOR AN AMATEUR MUSIC BUFF? HE WOULD LIKE 8GB OF RAM BUT 4 WOULD SUFFICE. THIS IS THE ONLY REQUIREMENT HE HAS SINCE HE WANTS TO DO ONE THING WITH IT.

Sorry, I have nothing that inexpensive just now. You can find good deals on Craigslist for that kind of money, though. I would look for machines with Intel Core i3 processors or higher, ideally a 3000 series (Ivy Bridge) or newer with an HDMI port for video and audio output. An SSD, or solid state drive, will make the system much faster to use but can be added later. Any of the Core-based systems should run Win10 just fine.

Hi Dave: Hope this inquiry finds you and family well. Just received this notice; "It’s time to prepare for Windows 7 end of support on January 14, 2020. " And it goes on. Is Ver 10 only choice? If so suggestions? Tnx, Steve

Win10 appears to be better in the latest release, v.1903. I have had good luck overall. That said, it is still a mixed bag. The prior October 2018 version 1809 was so awful they actually halted distribution and we get warnings seemingly with every update. No one is really sure what is really happening in January. MS is continuing to support Win7 for the corporate world (which has avoided Win8x and Win10) for a fee. Corporate licenses only. So, MS is already doing all the work of supporting Win7! They are also porting the Win10-exclusive Edge browser to Win7. With 35-40% of all computers worldwide still running Win7, the question is whether they will leave all those PCs unpatched and vulnerable. They supported XP years past the deadline, but MS has been ruthless pushing Win10. So, I can't predict what MS will do in January. If you decide to go with Win10, I will be happy to help and make it behave. Again, I have had good luck with v.1903. Best regards, -David

Yes. A decent wireless PC mouse is 20.oo.

Do you buy motherboards and/or GPU's? I have a Gigabyte GA-Z97X-UD7 as well as a GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER. I was headed to eBay but wanted to check local! Cheers!

Hi, thanks for thinking of CBR. We are not in the business of buying parts, sorry! Your best option really is eBay so long as you have an account with positive feedback. It is also a great place to see what your components are selling for. Dealers will typically offer pennies on the dollar. Good luck!

Hi David, I had another question on new computer security. Is Windows10 home as good for security as Windows 10 Pro. The Vivobook we talked about has Windows 10 Home Thank you!!!!

Hi, The short answer is no, Home is not as secure in as many ways as Pro. That said, for most users, Home is perfectly fine. Here is a good discussion of the many differences: https://www.lifewire.com/windows-10-home-vs-pro-4177144 Cheers! -David

Can I sell you used hardware and laptops for money?

No, sorry!

Do you have any laptops for sale? The more powerful the specs the better. Price isn't necessarily an obstacle for the right device.

Yes, but it would be good to know what sort of machine you are looking for or what work (or play!) it will need to perform. Please call me with questions.
