My (amazing) vet Sunset Cliffs Animal Hospital, recommends them for after hours or urgent care. I unfortunately have had to bring my dog here twice. However in an unfortunate scenario I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else. They always make it work to see your pet. And when you’re waiting nervously they couldn’t be more kind. Both times I had to go home because things were going to take so long, and they are never frustrated with your calls with questions or updates. They explain everything. There is just air of pure animal love there. I so much appreciate them!!

Our cat was referred to the Cardiology department here after suffering an episode that left him without use of his rear legs and fluid in his chest. The VCA Animal Specialty Group in Kearny Mesa did a fantastic job in saving his life, and then referring us to the amazing team here at VCA Mission Valley. Two days after a successful first visit, our cat had another emergency episode in the middle of the night. Frantic, we called VCA Mission Valley and they were able to take him immediately. It is my belief that their quick work and dedication once again saved our baby boy. Dr. K, Dr. Chin, Dr. Huston, and all staff at their direction showed nothing but understanding, love, and compassion for us in our time of need. Yes, we spent a small fortune to render these life-saving and necessary therapies. Had this happened just a few years ago, we would not have financially been able to afford the care or even qualify for financing. We are in a very fortunate situation and it is not lost on us that so many do not have this luxury. Though we do feel that the price is very high, there is no price we can put on the life of our little companion. I'm thankful we were financially able to help our friend in need and at the same time we are proud to support a living wage for these essential and very appreciated staff of doctors, technicians, desk attendants, etc etc etc. Our little family is so grateful for a place like VCA Emergency and we look forward to continuing our care journey here.

Wonderful experience with my English bulldog as he was seizing this evening. They rushed out to help him. Four different people. Immediate care as he was a high-risk case. Comprehensive exam, outstanding communication. Lots of concern and love from everyone. I don’t know why there are so many bad reviews. Maybe waiting several hours is frustrating. In an emergency though, they were incredible. All the bad reviews made me drive to Carlsbad this whole time but now I know we can come back here and get help if we need it. We live downtown. He has a brain tumor, so we will probably be back. At the end of the visit, I asked how much I could pay and they would not accept any money because he’s got to go to another location. They totally could’ve charged me but they didn’t. Five star review warranted.

I have never been so shocked or disgusted by the greed of a business. Not only would they not treat our dog, we waited in the car for 6 hours out front for them to give us the run around about payment. They wanted $4000 up front when we didn’t have that. We tried to offer to make payments but they only took one form of credit that we couldn’t qualify for and even then they still refused until a payment went through. They also wanted a $500 down payment right away before they even started to help him. Our pug had his eye popped out of the socket and they refused to do anything for him until we confirmed payment. I assume it’s because if our dog died they would have still gotten paid. This is an outrageous fee. How can everyone pay this? So I wonder how many animals have they turned away in pain and in desperate need of medical attention. I understand how a business works, but 6 hours of what? When we said we wanted to take him somewhere else we had to wait an hour and then we had to call again just for them to bring him out. They had stapled his eyelids together to keep his eye from poking out. This was one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had. I honestly don’t know how I could sleep at night if I worked there, after turning this little guy away. If you have any other options than to bring your pets here I would. It’s emotional extortion and they should be ashamed because it is an emergency they will charge whatever they want. On top of that we couldn’t even go inside to see him the entire time because of Covid. And now since it’s been so long and we couldn’t take him anywhere else, he’s going to have to have his eye removed. I know I gave a star but this place or company deserves zero. They’re suppose to care about animals? That’s an absolute lie. They care about money.
