Depressing place to work. Ward nurses that have been employed for yrs take on the mental issues as their patients. Patients have more rights then staff, as patients attack, and almost kill staff. But if staff attempts to save another staffs life, they are written up .

This Hospital was the cleanist, well built with private showers. I was the craziest I have ever been and they were still nice to me. Best stay ever!

It is a big part of history and the mental health system. It has come definitely a long way. The grounds are nice clean and beautiful. The houses you are abel to stay in while visiting family are absolutely cool and for five dollars a night. For a two story House. Can't beat that any were..

I was a maintenance employee at the Oregon State Hospital from 2001 to 2007. This was probably the best place I have worked in my career. My coworkers were my best friends. The supervisors were very supportive. I was impressed with the compassion and professionalism with which the clients were treated. If you have a chance to work for the hospital, take it. You will not regret it.

How and when can I come to see my daughter Kimberly Ann Gower?
Oregon State Hospital does not accept walk ins. Instead, patients come to the hospital through the court process – as either a civil, Guilty Except for Insanity (GEI), or Aid and Assist commitment. If you need help now, you can call these crisis lines: Alcohol and Drug Help Line 1-800-923-4357 Mental Health Crisis/Suicide 1-800-273-8255 Problem Gambling 1-877-695-4648 Military Helpline 1-888-457-4838 Youth line 1-877-968-8491
No. The tunnels are no longer considered safe for public access.
The length of stay depends on the individual. However, the median length of stay for people who have been: • Civilly committed (includes voluntary by guardian) is 117 days • Found Guilty Except for Insanity is 783 days • Ordered for competency restoration is 84 days
Pictures are prohibited in patient areas, that's a direct HIPAA violation. I believe there should be some display sets in the museum if you're curious. I'm unsure if they have current furniture displays though. We have plastic Norix beds bolted to the floor, depending on the unit there are either wooden or plastic desks and shelving also bolted down for safety. Level of personal belonging access depends on patient's progress levels in their treatment plans. Everything is for their safety, rooms are kept clean by environmental services daily. TVs and games can be found in common areas and we have a devoted team of maintenance personnel who are always ready to fix any functional concerns. Everything in patient rooms is deemed ligature resistant, again for safety. Fresh linens and warm blankets are provided to patients as needed and as requested. If you have a loved one inside the hospital I suggest talking to them to get a better idea. All of our policies in place are for patient safety.

No, but they do for friends and family.
If you are over 18...
Unit 33 no longer exists. Construction of the new hospital was complete in 2012, and the old buildings were demolished in 2016. You can find more information about visitation – including the current visitation schedule – at OSH.oregon.gov. Once there, click on “Apply to Visit a Patient,” which is the third link in the “Friends and Family” box in the lower, right-hand side of the page.

The hospital accepts donations of gently used or new clothing which is then sorted for distribution to patients. Generally speaking there cannot be long cords like on a hoodie or in some sweat pants or metal ..such as decorative chains or brads. Also writing or logos, such as on tshirts, should not be drug or alcohol related or be offensive language.
Yes clients must give a release for those whom they wish to have visit or contact them. For reasons of HIPPA laws the hospital staff are not allowed to deny or confirm if someone you know is in the hospital.

The hospital handbook says family members are the second most important person on the IDT team, Interdisciplinary Team, but the unwritten rules of OSH is they keep you out unless you some how find out about them. Raise cane till you are informed and invited. Or they want you in the dark. Also, if you have a public comment, attend OSH Advisory Board meetings.
The Museum located at the front of the building is open to the public.
Huh???
If you are an approved visitor i would recommend calling the unit the patient is on to inform the staff you are planning on visiting and make sure there are no restrictions for the patient to have visitors.
Ward 40c no longer exists at the hospital. Construction of the new hospital was complete in 2012, and the old buildings were demolished in 2016. To see what the current patient units look like, as well as other parts of the hospital, check out a series of 360-degree photos at OSH.oregon.gov.
