When my friends first suggested that I move my parents to this facility, my first thought was, "I wouldn't do that to them! NOT a VA Home!" However they kept telling me it wasn't like that, so I scoped it out for my Dad. Since it was after hours, one of the nurses had to let me in the door, and I mainly talked with the other residents. They were great, and told me, "Just get him down here, we'll make sure he likes it." And when I told them he'd served between wars and didn't think his time counted, they just said "Oh, we'll set him straight about that, just get him here!" Despite problems and delays from the facility he was currently in, I was finally able to get him there. He liked it enough that we we able to get Mom down there with him, and they were able to spend her final year and a half together. The staff -- from administration to hands-on caregivers to support staff -- seem to care about the residents and their families. They communicate well to keep us in the loop and think about ways to make the residents' lives better. From my experience, they go above and beyond for the benefit of their residents. For example, they had a special dinner for our parents at a table off by themselves for their anniversary. It ended up being their last anniversary before my Mom passed away, so that made it even more special. They also worked with us to be able to get both Mom and Dad to be able to travel and attend their only grandson's wedding. They worked with us to have my Dad be able to go on the Journey of Heroes -- wore him out but he loved it! They worked with us to have a memorial service for Mom there at the facility so that other residents and staff who might not be able to get away for another service could attend and pay their respects. They continue to work with us and provide great care for our Dad. We can't see him getting as good of care anywhere else. He was good even during COVID lockdown. He liked that they brought his meals to him and checked on him in case he needed anything or answered his light promptly. I can't recommend them highly enough. They are the standard by which other care homes should be held!

I regularly stop in here to do work. This is an amazing facility for Veterans. The staff are friendly, the buildings are neat, clean and smell good.

My father is in this facility. The level of care is phenomenal. The staff are friendly, attentive and i feel they truly care about their people. All senior care facilities should take note and learn from this model

I am a friend of a family member that lost her dad up there. I can't believe how uncaring the staff has been. Nobody has called my dear friend to say they were sorry her dad passed away and when she called the one lady said. Oh yeah I heard about your dad dying. What do you need. No, I'm sorry or that's awful. Just what do you need. She asked if they had any boxes and when her cousin got there. Nothing and no help. I can't imagine treating a family the way they did when someone passes away. They may indeed be beautiful and have good food. But caring is very important and it's obvious they only cared about how much money they got from him being there and not as a person.

The rooms are private rooms, but you could call and ask to double check
Transportation is for residents only. Please contact VA transportation for other options.

Tax records of year 2020 should be sent off by your employer and they will send your information via mail. Information sent directly to last posted address should have a post date mark of January 31st or said employer could get fine by the IRS
I don't know the qualifications personally but the website might have some answers. My best advice is to call them when they open and ask since the front desk will be able to help with any questions regarding qualifications
Definitely call them and inquire. I don't know how the wait list is prioritized so asking is the best way to know. All Veterans are eligible to try and apply as far as I understand though.
You would need to call the veterans home and talk to the activity people, and find out from them what is need to be done to volunteer
They have 150 rooms/beds. You will have to contact the home for openings
The Oregon Veterans Home is a skilled nursing home.
