Helping people of all cultures and race is tattooed to the company's mission. Most importantly, the clinicians and fellow staff at NHWS are human. They are empathetic, highly skilled and professional. I highly recommend their services whether it be psychological, occupational therapy, speech therapy or any of their social skills groups or camps. During my employment with NHWS, I watched children speak their first words after other therapists had given up. But not NHWS. I observed young men of diversity finally feel "heard" from a person of color like themselves who truly understands. Every small step makes a huge difference and THIS team of professionals will help bring out your best self.

This clinic has been so supportive. Everyone is so kind and inviting! The front office staff works so hard to manage schedules and get clients on in a timely fashion. I’d highly suggest coming here.

I was referred to this clinic for speech therapy for my special needs son. The speech therapist was a nice lady - but it seemed she brought supplies from home which I thought was a bit odd. The front desk staff was quite rude and once attempted to collect duplicate payment from me, which after I had to argue that I had already paid, finally looked and agreed that yes I had already paid that charge. They keep the sliding window closed and god help you if you approach the window - you will at first be ignored until one of the ladies finally opens the window approx 1 inch to speak with you. Not something I am used to - most clinics treat customers with much more respect. I arrived once to an appointment, which I had left work early for and found the office was closed - with no phone call to me they decided to close early that day for "spring break". I was given a half-a$$ apology and she said "it looks like we called everyone except you". Beyond unprofessional! I was even asked to "limit my son's time in the waiting room" due to his behavior - which shocked me since I thought this was a place for special needs children. Bottom line - DO NOT GO HERE - I pulled my son out and am now being referred to Providence for his autism / sensory needs.

New Horizons Wellness Services Do not go here under any circumstances !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I found my experience with these clinicians to be less than satisfactory. 1. The receptionist has a horrible attitude and treat you as if she is doing you a favor. 2. They called to tell me I had to get them my paper work to them that day which was 9 days prior to my appt. I told them I would and faxed my paper work to them that day. 3. I called the day prior to my appointment to confirm and was told it had been canceled even though I faxed them my paperwork. They replied that they had not received. I asked them why they did not called me to tell they had cancelled my appointment. The explanation was less than stellar, insulting and rude. I asked to speak to that persons manager. I was passed on and received similar treatment from the doctor in charge of the clinic. He at one point mentioned that nobody was going to be there that day to see me as that clinician was not in the office at all. That seemed odd, I asked if anyone was ever going to be there at all that day. That made the person very angry, and I was told the earliest I could reschedule was 20 day from then. So basically I was this persons only appointment that day? Seems very weird … perhaps they just wanted the day off or a three day weekend. All I can say is that the attitude from the entire office was poor and patient care is not their priority. Apparently though three day weekends are what they really focus on.

Questions & Answers

I’m a referral coordinator/healthcare practitioner, and I have a client I’d like to refer. How can I do that?

You can make a referral by faxing information to our office. It’s helpful if we receive past office visit notes or if you include the concern you’d like to have our clinic address. If you have a question about what services to request, please call the clinic or email us.

I don’t know if I need a speech therapist or an occupational therapist. How do I decide?

Broadly speaking, speech therapists focus on communication and language issues, like stuttering, speech apraxia, and social pragmatics . Occupational therapists, on the other hand, focus more on helping you perform day-to-day tasks, organization and planning skills and visual-motor skills. There is sometimes some overlap, and you may see both during your therapeutic journey. If you’re not sure which is right for you, contact New Horizons Wellness Services and we’ll help you make the right decision.

Do I need a referral from my medical doctor to see a therapist at New Horizons Wellness?

For occupational therapy and speech-language pathology, we ask that you get a referral from your doctor before your evaluation. For most people, this involves a simple request to your primary care physician’s office. If you have concerns about getting a doctor’s referral, please let our Patient Access Specialists know and we will do what we can to help find the best option. For counseling or psychological testing, a referral is not required. However, if another provider or agency is recommending that you get treatment, it is always helpful to have that referral information.

What should I bring to my first appointment?

Please plan to arrive at least 15 minutes before your appointment, 30 minutes is even better. When you arrive, there will be forms that you need to complete before your session can begin. Bring a form of ID (adult clients), your insurance card and a form of payment. Also bring any reports from healthcare professionals or schools. Unless advised otherwise, children who will be receiving treatment need to be at the first session.
