I love the atmosphere. One walk around the lake sets my day rolling. The most peaceful time is in the coolness of the morning. The birds are talking, fish jumping, there’s so much movement in the trees.

I came here with my family off-season. The wooden playground was unique, with lots of fun elements that the kids really enjoyed, including a zip line, digging area with an "excavator," swings and climbing structures. The restrooms were nearby and open. There's a pavilion, picnic area and second playground across the road (Beehunter pavilion).

You can go to the beach without camping. Yes once you pay at the entrance you can use the park. I think the extra charges are to rent boats, and camping. No reservations need for daytime use. Need reservations for camping, and renting boats.
Lots of creeks/streams super close by I'm sure a dog would enjoy :)
There are no camper sites in the winter, at least. There are different levels of cabins and how maintainable the trail is are considerations.
The pavilions can be reserved, but are open if no one's using them. The standup grills are first come, first serve.
You can check reserveamerica.com and look for Allegany State Park. Prices range from $40-$100/night depending on location and amenities. Its a beautiful park, you will enjoy it!
