Don't take the Google Map directions that lead to private road. Use Eden Park, 1601 San Elijo Rd, San Marcos, CA 92078. Go in the morning or late evening when no events are happening, otherwise a $10 parking fee.

There is a waterfall but no swimming hole.
You cannot take your dog along Copper Creek (about a 1 mile section), otherwise it's good.
We did not see any, but the trails are very narrow so you just have to keep your eyes open and be vigilant to the surrounding areas.
