When my husband and I adopted our first dog in 2020, we knew we'd be adding a second dog to our family eventually because our v v good boy Ernie loves to play. Fast forward 2 years and we finally found ourselves in a good place to add a second dog to our family and find Ernie his new BFF. Finding a good local rescue can be a really overwhelming process, so I started looking at rescues in San Diego county about a year or so before we were looking to apply for our second dog. I had stumbled on The Animal Pad through instagram, and was immediately drawn in by how it was so clear that the volunteers and team over at TAP are so passionate about what they're doing and give everything they have to give the dogs in their care the best chance possible. So when we were ready to take the plunge and adopt again, we knew it would be through TAP. After religiously checking the TAP website and IG for dog updates for a few weeks, we found a dog that we'd be interested in meeting and applied through the TAP website. I have no chill, so I reached out to TAP a few days later to check on the status of my application and to add another dog to our wish list, and got a very quick response from the team updating me on the status of everything. That evening we heard we were matched with one of the dogs, and were put in contact with a wonderful team that made the entire meet&greet and adoption process so easy, straightforward, and seamless. We are so thankful to the entire TAP team, including the wonderful foster family that clearly took wonderful care of our dog while she was in their care. We ended up adopting a puppy, and have had multiple comments at our vet about how wonderful her temperament is, how calm she was during her appointment, and how she was clearly well taken care of while in TAPs care. Our vet also mentioned that her medical record was perfect and right on track for her development, and that TAP did an excellent job. We've had our pup for a little over a month, and are so happy that we chose to adopt through TAP and found the perfect addition to our family. We could not recommend TAP more!

This review is way overdue. I adopted my dog at the end of November and I am so happy I found her and the Animal Pad. From start to finish, the entire process ran like a well oiled machine! I met with the foster mom (who was so helpful and responsive as well!) and then a week later my girl was officially adopted. I really appreciated the communication with the team who helped me during the process specifically Shelby and Keren. E-mails were responded to quickly and they moved me through each step of the process so smoothly even I was surprised that I was able to bring her home so fast. I can't recommend this rescue enough. They are doing such amazing work and anybody who follows them on Instagram knows they are incredibly passionate about saving all the dogs they can. I am so glad to be part of the Animal Pad family and so grateful to them for my new family member!

We adopted our sweet Missy from The Animal Pad and could not be happier. She fits in perfectly with our Schnauzer (and black lab) pack. She's well behaved, lovable, friendly and smiles ALL the time. My Grandmother desperately wanted another pup after losing hers about a year prior. The crew at TAP was extremely helpful in finding us a pup that needed a home as much as we wanted to provide a home for a pup in need.

I fell in love when I saw Seamus’s pictures! Because they are foster based the pictures show their personalities and I was able to find out more information from the foster’s experience. This allowed me to find the right pup and connection for me <3. TAP’s process was genuine, professional, thorough, and the pup’s definitely came first. It was a smooth process and I never felt rushed to adopt. They gave me the proper time to connect with Seamus and made sure I’m ready to receive and adopt him.Thank you to everyone on the team for all your hard work!

Perhaps if you call the human services line at 211 they might help you communicate with another shelter that prevents cruelty to animals. I hope this helps. Pray to god for guidance.
I believe not, I helped out because one person there works at my school but I believe that they aren't accepting volunteers anymore <3
Yes! We are all Volunteers as this is a 100% Volunteer run organization! Please head over to our website and fill out an application: https://theanimalpad.org/volunteer/volunteer-application/
Yes, there is a green bin outside
The dogs range between $200 and $500. It's generally considered bad practice to offer them for cheap, because that makes it easy for creeps to pick up several for experimentation or other abuse. 😥
With parental/guardian supervision, yes! We would just need a volunteer application on file for both parent and child.
Hi there! Our adoptable dogs are in foster homes throughout San Diego, so the first step is to apply via our website theanimalpad.org. Hope this helps!
Hi! We are a foster based rescue so we don’t have a facility for you to come by, but if you apply to adopt via theanimalpad.org, our adoptions team will be in touch!
We recommend The Rescue House or San Diego Humane Society!
I was able to do everything through email, no phone contact other than the foster that showed us pup.
check on their website!
Hi Rick! I'm a volunteer, adopter and overall animal pad lover. The animal pad is a foster based rescue so we rescue from the streets and shelters of mexico and SoCal but once our dogs are finished with vetting/quarantine at our kennel facility they are off to fosters within 2 weeks so there is no central spot. If you're interested in volunteering, fostering or adopting, we would love to have you join the team/find out more about us - please check out theanimalpad.org to get more information! Thank you 🐾
i believe its 13+ with parental supervision
This is a foster based rescue, they do not currently have a shelter location. (That means all of the dogs are in foster homes, you must fill out an adoption application if you're interested in meeting any of the dogs and the team will set you up with a meeting.)
nope :)
