I found Dr. Patterson to be very friendly and smart. I felt “heard” and did not feel “fat shamed” which I find to be a common issue among medical practitioners.

I was scheduled for surgery at 11:30am. The patient ahead of me was more than 2 hours late. Rather than switch she & I around, they waited for her which put my surgery late. I sat in the lobby for 2 hours after my scheduled appointment. If they’d switched us around I wouldn’t have had to wait because of another’s lack of planning. Disappointing to say the least. Other than this lack of consideration all was great. The ladies at the surgical center took great care of me & were very attentive to my needs. Thank you much. 😊

Because there are several operations for treating obesity, the goal of Oregon Weight Loss Surgery is to help patients find the procedure they are most comfortable with. We strive to educate our patients about every option and typically allow the patients to choose the procedure. Although this is generally the case, one surgery may be recommended over another, depending on individual circumstances.

Generally speaking, any person with a BMI over 30 may qualify for a weight loss surgery procedure. To have bariatric surgery covered by your medical insurance, most companies require that patients meet the National Institutes of Health criteria. You can find the specific NIH criteria on the Oregon Weight Loss Surgery website.

Hello, The cash pay rate for a Sleeve Gastrectomy is approximately $21,500 and includes surgeon fee, assistant fee, anesthesia fee, facility fee, estimated cost of required pre-op visits, as well as 1 year of post-op visits. We also offer BLIS insurance, which can be purchased separately, and covers certain post-op complications for cash pay patients. Our clinic is not currently offering the Gastric Bypass procedure. If I have this surgery, can I eat anything I want and stop exercising?

No. Surgeries performed at Oregon Weight Loss Surgery are just the beginning of a new, healthy lifestyle that will include eating smaller portions of healthy foods and implementing a regular schedule of exercise. Surgery merely provides a tool for weight loss; patients must make a lifetime commitment to change. But don’t worry — we’re here to help and will recommend a specific diet and exercise regimen just for you.

How do I find out if my insurance will cover the surgery and how do I get financing for it?

We offer free insurance checks on our website. Please visit our website and select the "schedule consult" button on our homepage and you will be redirected to our insurance check request form. The form takes just a few minutes and we will verify your coverage before reaching out to schedule an initial consultation. Alternatively, you can contact your insurance plan's customer service line listed on the back of your card. You should request coverage information on bariatric surgery and may need to provide a CPT code: CPT 43775 - Sleeve Gastrectomy CPT 43644 - Gastric Bypass CPT 43770 - Lap Band We recommend asking the insurance representative to check your plan exclusion list to determine whether bariatric surgery is excluded entirely. We offer financing through Prosper Healthcare Lending and an application link is available on our self pay page: https://www.oregonweightlosssurgery.com/self-pay. You can also apply directly with Prosper Healthcare Lending, via their website.
