I 'm a new home owner trying to improve my house so I was stressed until I met with the county. They were more than helpful walking me through each step helping ease the stress. Final inspection passed today. Thank you to everyone. Not a single person was not helpful!

Kim, Cindy, Chad and Paul were extremely helpful and patient when dealing with me (a homeowner doing own remodel work). Inspector Jeff was also friendly and easy to work with. The permitting part of the remodel was very stressful for me so I was relieved to have these knowledgeable and kind people to lead me through the process.

Having worked with a variety of municipalities and County governments, Marion is one of the best. Simple and straightforward; if you're nice to them, they're very nice to you. Never had a problem with review or inspections, even worked with me on getting the proper paperwork filed after I mistakenly submitted the wrong forms. Always willing to answer questions and we're graceful in correcting mistakes on their end.

I wish I could give 0 stars but after trying to build a house for over a year and still no house... Just the septic system which was submitted for in June 2015 wasnt approved till mid Oct 2015 which after Oct 1st you can't install a septic system unless you have special permission from County septic which good luck. Then you can't install a system until June and even then you could be on hold and with most construction loans only being 9months then you are going to have to start paying extension fees. Which in my case since I was told I would have to go with an advanced treatment it took my septic bid from around 8 grand to over 18grand plus the system has to be serviced every year for the life of the system which is 300 buck every year plus county recording costs. This is after the old mobile on the property had a regular septic system that functioned for 40yrs no problem and not one of the neighbors has anything other than a regular system around me. The big thing is that after finding out we would need this new system which we resubmitted in Aug still took till mid Oct to approve this is while having county septic asking for information about the system repeatedly that was included in the paperwork over and over, out of the at least 3 times i had to drive down to county to point out information that was already on the paperwork one time was there a valid question that once asked I called my contractor and had a answer within 5mins but I'm sure everytime they claimed I was missing information which I wasnt cost me weeks on approval for no reason. Then there is the tons of permits that they wont tell you about like the "replacement dwelling" permit that if you removed a mobile home off the property and are building a new house you will have to submit for that you but wont find out till you have to have county planning sign off on building plans which is around 700 bucks and 30days to approve. So once you finally get to building you are going to have had to pay out of pocket for alot of the permits and be way behind on your build just from people not letting you know about these permits which you go in to get an estimate for your bank on the construction loan. So now after having the house almost finished I was finally allowed to start on the septic after June 1st which I was originally told would be when we could start then a few days before June 1st I was told I would still have to wait. Now the septic was dug and tanks and drainfield were installed county septic came to inspect and passed the system and everything could be covered. So now after covering everything County septic comes back to inspect and fails the system saying the tanks have to be higher which should have been addressed before covering the system and now have to figure out how to fix this when its a gravity system that can't be raised...again should have been addressed at first inspection not last. It has made me regret trying to build a home here in Marion county and unsured I will never build one again here.
