I served in the Army and when i got out i was told things were going to be pretty cut and dry with the VA but oh that was a far cry from the truth. I have had a helluva time trying ro get my disability claim going and they have just been giving me the run around.

1. How do I list my business as Veteran Owned"? 2. Is there a benefit for public projects for those listed as "Veteran Owned".

Bob Sweeney | Aug 17, 2020
Oregon Department of Veterans' Affairs | Aug 17, 2020

Bob, There are two avenues, state and federal. Oregon has a Service Disabled Veteran (SDV) certification which is for service-disabled veteran-owned businesses seeking opportunities for state, county and city government and special jurisdiction (e.g., hospitals and universities) contracts. More info: http://www.oregon4biz.com/How-We-Can-Help/COBID/SDV/ On the federal level, if you have a Veteran-Owned Small Business, you may qualify for advantages when bidding on government contracts—along with access to other resources and support—through the Vets First Verification Program. Eleonore Bode-Lemming | Aug 17, 2020
Oregon Department of Veterans' Affairs | Aug 17, 2020

Eleonore, thank you for your question. The best place to contact for concerns regarding license plates would be the Oregon Dept. of Transportation (ODOT), as that is the agency who manages license plates and IDs including those with veteran designations. You can contact them online or by phone here: https://www.oregon.gov/odot/dmv/pages/contact_us.aspx

How does my husband obtain an Oregon Veterans ID card & how can he obtain a certified copy of his original DD214 discharge paper.

Linda Jenks | Aug 18, 2019
Oregon Department of Veterans' Affairs | Aug 18, 2019

Linda, here are some options for your husband: - Veteran ID card: An Oregon veteran can get a veteran designation on an Oregon driver license or identification card through the DMV. More info here: https://www.oregon.gov/odva/Benefits/Pages/Veteran-IDs.aspx#IDs - Copies of discharge records: Veterans in Oregon may have elected to send ODVA a copy of their discharge records, in which case it can be requested from us. If the record is not with ODVA, then the discharge record may need to be ordered directly from the National Personnel Records Center. Both methods are described here: https://www.oregon.gov/ODVA/Connect/Pages/Public-Records-Request.aspx
