The hotel is under re-construction as mentioned by other guests, but the room is nice, clean, quiet, comfortable and somewhat moderate, so no one should hesitate to stay here one night for business purposes... The "free breakfast" is something that this place should not advertise... Period...

I wanted to give it 1 star but I gave it a second star because my room had been renovated. See the pics. This hotel needs to just close down while renovating. I have stayed here year after year for at least the past 5-6 yrs for Thanksgiving in Saluda. In the past 2 yrs(not counting 2020) I have been totally disappointed. In 2019 I recognized severe problems i.e nasty rooms, dirty carpet and bathroom floors, dead bugs, and old outdated furniture. Since they were in the beginning phase of renovating I tolerated it. This year, Nov. 2021, I just knew those renovations would be completed. Unfortunately not. Although we were put in two “almost” fully completed rooms there is still punch out work that needs to be done. I felt better about the room because cosmetically it looked 80% better than the room I had in 2019. And I wouldn’t be writing this review but in the middle of my sleep (3am) I was awaken by something crawling on my neck. I smacked it off jumped out of bed and turned the lights on. It was a roach. I was sooo angry as this one night stay cost me $124 and the place just needs to close while renovating. I wanted to tell the front desk but at that time of the morning I knew that no one would answer. So I sat up the rest of the morning waiting for something else to appear and listening to the loud refrigerator. I looked around the refrigerator and saw 2 more roaches. The next morning as I walked down the stairs to get ready to leave there was a homeless person sleeping in the stairwell. He was young and shivering. He didn’t say anything or harm me but it could have very well went in a 100 different bad directions. The doors are not secured at all leaving this hotel very unsafe to stay. This hotel has left me so dissatisfied in the past 3-4 years. Although the staff is always so kind, Now I will need to definitely find someplace else to stay which will have to be 25 min in the Tappahanock area. Right now they really need to shut down until the facility has fully completed renovating and exterminating. They definitely have no right charging people 100% to stay there under these conditions.

This property is currently unsatisfactory. It can not provide safety and comfort for its guest. After seeing numerous ads for it, it does not meet expectations of its guest. If I had been made aware of the conditions before I made a reservation, I would not have scheduled a stay there. I was not made aware of the renovations that are currently taking place. I was not made aware that breakfast was unavailable. I was not made aware that the pool was unavailable. Our room appeared to be newly renovated and clean. The sheets, towels and bathroom appeared to be clean. However, there was no furniture in our room and we ended up eating our meal while sitting on the bed. The bathroom did not have any soap available, which is essential during this pandemic. The sink did not drain properly, which prevented my husband from shaving. Renovations were taking place past 10:00 p.m. and we were subject to the sound of drilling while trying to sleep. The window blind was not sufficient to keep light out of the room at night, therefore I never went to sleep. Plastic, boxes, tools and furniture lined parts of hallways. The pool area was covered with old furniture and to the side laid mattresses and building material. Roofing nails were strewn in areas of the parking lot, making for hazardous conditions. This property needs to be closed temporarily while renovations are being completed, to ensure the safety and comfort of guest. Staff should make all unacceptable conditions known to guest before reservations are made. The current actions (or lack of actions) show disrespect and disregard of the guest. We will never be back.

Please do not over pay for this hotel it is not worth even $60. My Husband and I stayed for 2 days over the weekend. The hotel is under construction and they do not advertise this. We were placed on the bottom floor where the hallway had no carpet and using plastic to cover the cement. Through out the day and night people kept using the back door and keeping it propped open bc the key card pad outside would no work. The 1 first day of arrival we had issues with ants and the floors were so dirty that it left smudges on the hotel sheets. They swiped my card 3 times and had to reimburse us one charge and left and extra $100 charge in pending state that we are still current fighting at this time. We did not bother with the breakfast and ate out since there was a bug issue. On the last day we were greeted by A cockroach and no hot water. Please do not waste your time or money and make sure to watch you bank accounts.

There's only one person there at the front desk at any given point. Unfortunately, that one person has other jobs to do other than answer the phone.
